Have been diagnosed to have a bone spur in the first joint , closest to palm, of my dominate hand middle finger.

Diagnosis was pretty much just a shadowy spot on an xray.

Steroid shots have been helping. Doctor indicated that my options were the shots or joint replacement. Nothing in between. I find it weird that there is not an option to remove the bone spur. I have no particular loss of movement or function, just the pain in the finger. Jumping to joint replacement seems extreme to me.

Previous shots lasted 6 to 8 months. Last one was 3 months ago and is noticeably fading now.

Would like to get a second opinion and perhaps someone that looks a little more closely before jumping to joint replacement surgery.

Daniel Koehler at Southwestern. My wife is a hand surgeon, and she and Daniel did a fellowship together and still collaborate a good bit. I don't know if he fits the geography exactly, but he is a good doctor.

Dr Megan Wood at Medical City has a great reputation. I took my son to her for a minor issue and she was wonderful. Timely and very personable. A good friend of mine had a much more serious issue that required surgery and she was extremely pleased with the care she received.

He is in the Mid Cities, not north Dallas, but Dr. Cameron Atkinson is one of the best hand and wrist doctors in Texas, according to my wife (who is in the business).

He had operated on my wife's hands twice for trigger finger and did great both times. He is excellent with sport injuries as well.

He has the extra added benefit of being a running back at Princeton. He was first team All-Ivy League his senior year and was third leading rusher over all in Princeton history.
