51 and starting Losartan to lower blood pressure. Anyone else have experience with this specific prescription? Within the past year, my blood pressure has really increased.

I started on Losartan as 35F after my BP didn't go down post-pregnancy. 7 years later I'm still on my original dose. No side effects and has done a great job keeping my BP under control.

I've also been on Losartan for a while. It's effective with no noticeable side effects for me.

I've been on Losartan for years, too, with no noticeable effects.

I was at the doctor's office one day about 20 years ago and asked him when I would be put on blood pressure medicine since everyone else in the family was already on it. He replied that he could put me on a baby dose of Losartan and so I've been taking it ever since.

Do you recall what the baby dose was, just out of curiosity?

I think he mainly just meant it as a minimum dose since I wasn't really having much issues. I think it was 50 mg, but it might have been 25 mg.

I've been on 12.5 mg daily dose (cut the 25mg pill in half)

Question for those on Losartan...

Do you experience any affect? i.e. does having lower bp make you feel any different in any way?

What happens if you stop taking it?

I am on a different med. I didn't really get any instructions or helpful advice, just heres the pills, take one twice a day. Well, 3-4 weeks into this I went on a guys fishing trip. I got way too drunk to take my pills at night and was way too hungover to take pills in the morning. Well, by the time I made it home on Sunday evening, it felt like my heart was going to beat clean out of my chest. I stopped halfway home and took a pill and then another at bedtime. I could hardly sleep that night until very late when the pills finally hit bottom. So, in short, don't skip the whole weekend! Miss a pill or two, no biggie, just don't miss a few in a row.

I'm a week in and feel great.
No more feeling as though your head is going to explode.

Yeah not good. Most BP meds tell you not to drink alcohol with them too.

I feel what I would describe as low-level anxiety, like I can feel something is off but can't quite put a finger on it (except I can). And I don't sleep as well.

Could have had something called holiday heart. Which is basically where people drink excessively and put themselves into an abnormal heart rhythm.

Was it a beta blocker? You can have a bit of a withdrawal effect from those if you've been on them a while.

I've never heard of any standard blood pressure meds where you should abstain from alcohol. At least due to the meds. However a doc may tell you to if you drink excessively and he's concerned about perhaps your electrolytes if you're on a diuretic.
