Tried it last year but was relatively disappointed as I didn't notice much of a change (actually gained a few lbs, unfortunately). I guess that means I don't have a drinking problem.

That said, I'm in for another try. Going to start on Dec 31st and probably go into February a bit.

If I don't drink and don't die before 1/31/26, that will make 35 consecutive dry Januarys.
The person that is not willing to fight and die, if need be, for his country has no right to life.

In. Actually deciding to go sober and give up drinking. I am a better person without it. Time for total sobriety.

In, well haven't had a drink in some time so it's just another month.

I would suggest trying, at least for the health aspect. Huberman had someone on his podcast lately and they said a half glass of wine is the max you can drink before it affects your health. By half glass they meant a half glass a year. That was kind of shocking.

Leaving for Vegas on New Year's Day, then in after.

I've cut way back anyway since getting a Whoop band that highlights how crummy I sleep and feel after drinking, but it's time to really shut it down for awhile

Those of you doing this, how much are you drinking now? Is it every day, multiple days a week, etc? I'll have a couple of drinks on Saturdays usually but that's it.

Weekends only for me, unless I have a work function during the week, but I typically don't drink on Sundays.

I was at least at a 375ml a day of liquor a day (half a bottle) on the weekdays. Probalby closer to a liter a day Friday, Saturday and sundays.

Most of our hunger mechanisms are surprisingly good at maintaining a set point. I'm sure my sugar consumption has quadrupled since I quit the sauce. I've "only" lost 10 pounds over the past year--but maintaining a steady weight by having 10 beers for dinner a couple of times a week was certainly not "healthy".

I told myself a lot of times that my drinking wasn't a problem, because it wasn't as bad as the "real alcoholics". There's a reason people in AA say that if something bad hasn't happened to you yet because of drinking, keep drinking, and it probably will.

Similar to Yokels reply, I see a big shift in my tastes when I quit drinking for a bit. I usually have a sweet tooth, but it goes into overdrive in Dryuary. It took a couple tries before I realized this, but once I put a label on it, I found it was easier to manage.

Weight started falling off after that. I consciously chose not to eat sweets for a couple weeks which was tough but eventually faded.

I've already started. Last drink for a while was 12/20. Didn't drink that much, 2-3 nights per week at most and typically 1-2 drinks per night. There were the occasional party or tailgate etc where I could have 5-6 beers, but that is pretty rare these days. I've been thinking about quitting all together for a while now. I will miss an occasional cold brew, but we'll see how it goes.

Probably saves a lot of money too.

Some weeks I don't drink at all. But my problem is, once I start, im a snowball rolling downhill. Im gonna drink until I go to sleep. If I start at noon or 9p, im drinking the rest of the day. I don't get annihilated like i did in college, but ill keep a good buzz. Thats a lot of extra calories, and it make me super lazy the following day. Its way easier for me to have zero alcohol than to have one drink.
