Saw the tights thread so got me wondering. Ramping up my training again and haven't bought a new pair in a while. Like a pair with brief liner as short liners seem to chafe me after longer mileage. I think bc most built in tights aren't tight enough to provide protection. Unless there is a short with tight liners that perform well for yall.

Favorites at the moment are Janji Middle short and Track Smith Sessions. Both are great but don't have pockets.

terignota. quality and very affordable.

i don't like built in liners, but since you asked, terignota has the brief liner built in.

I have a couple pair of the REI 5" running shorts with the brief liner. No issues or chafing. I still put on Vaseline for anything above about 8 miles.

Check this out!

Currently out of stock. But put my email down for when they come in. That price is wild!

Do you run with a phone in the back pocket? If so, how does it do bounce and stability wise? I started running with my phone recently, and the belt options I've tried have been hit and miss at best.

typically no. i don't like the phone in the back. that seems to be the spot where it will bounce....even if its a small amount, it ends up chafing.

half tights - phone in side pocket
most running shorts - into a zippered side pocket
terignota - goes into the waistband "pocket" on the front side.

if i'm wearing my vest, it just goes in there and isn't in the shorts at all.

and this time of year, always in a ziplock bag due to the humidity and sweating.

I really like the Ten Thousand brand shorts. They are more of a crossfit brand so more geared towards that so they are heavier than running shorts. A little priciey too, sometimes they have deals (buy 2 get 3rd half off - type)

They have 5, 7, and 9 inch options with/without liner. I've never had luck with liners briefs or tights, except for these. Super comfortable not too tight. Accessible pockets that holds a phone well. They also have a tights pocket for a phone if you like that.

I get the Interval shorts. Again a bit on the heavier side. I have some of their Session shorts - marketed for running so they are lighter. The pockets on those aren't as accessible - kinda at an odd angle. Still fits a phone, I just struggle a bit to finagle it out while in stride.

They're great. My only con on them is cost but I've made warranty claims on Patagonia stuff that is over 5 years old and they just send me new stuff.

Legend brand is pretty good. No idea what they cost. My wife ordered for me during big sale after Christmas. They are my favorite shorts. But I'm not picky.

Lululemon rip stop are my favorites. And they seem to last forever. But all the ones I have are the boxer briefs style liner.

I also have a few Fabletics. For the price, I've even impressed with them. However their subscription model is a PITA and the surprise tariff charge (at least in store) really pissed me off the first time.

I got a pair of these recently and like them a lot. I run with my phone since I listen to audiobooks and it didn't move at all in the leg pocket in the liner. It's my first pair of shorts with a liner, so I went the cheaper route to make sure I liked the style before going with something more expensive. Only ran in them twice, so can't speak to longevity.

I have two in competitive cheer, and I see the Fabletics people at every competition. Seems like a great product if you can keep from getting screwed by their VIP program.

I see those a lot at TJ Maxx for like $13. My wife grabbed me a pair to try on, but the liner was shorter than I like. Otherwise, they were comfortable.

I'm slowly acquiring more of the 5" and 7" to replace a worn out collection of misc athletic shorts. I've had no problems with either the briefs in the 5 or the trunks in the 7. They're good quality at a decent price (relative),
I like that they are lightweight and the short doesn't absorb water and get heavy. I don't carry a phone on runs so I don't prioritize shorts based on pockets.

So far, out of the ones tried, the Patagonia Strider Pro, Janji Middle Short, and Tracksmith Sessions have been the best for me running long.

The Ten Thousand and Vuori shorts are my favorite for lifting and short easy runs.

Does the liner have a pocket or does it crush your junk? Love the liner concept, have only found one pair of shorts w a liner that have ever been comfortable for running. Duluth bullpen style but they are long discontinued.

Yeah, just priced what I last purchased, 7" interval shorts with liner $98. That is high. I bought 2 years ago 2 pairs, $68 each - $20 off when you buy 2. So $58 each. I'd look for end of season sales or something which I see them have regularly.

As for the liner yes they have pockets on the side along the thigh. Holds a phone snug. The regular shorts portion has a zippered phone pocket that holds a phone quite well too so I prefer to hold in there (not as snug as the liner pockets but still minimal bounce).

The liner is comfortable, not super tight or binding. Not baggy loose either. Neither the liner nor the shorts bunch up or ride up the middle of your thighs like other shorts I have do. The material feels nice as well, almost bike short shammy like.

Yeah I know quality stuff is just expensive now so $70 is a lot for shorts but within reason. I know they are popular with athletes.

I bought several
Pairs of baleaf years ago based on a Texags recommendation. They were good for the money but the sizes were all over the place. I got 4 pairs of medium and none of them were the same fit.
