Curious as to the board's recommendations. I'd kick off with Mark Felton (mainly aviation related content):

https://youtube.com/channel/UCR3L1IGpxPDuHWQjqfz608g

Historypod is ok;

https://youtube.com/c/HistorypodNet

Not interested in aliens/conspiracies etc. Casual Historian is kind of funny;

Mark Felton isn't just aviation. He does all sorts of great WWII forgotten history videos. He is possibly the best thing on YouTube history wise.

TheUntoldPast is solid. He has a morbid fascination with executions...but they're really well done.

Never going to be super in depth, but if you like metal music and you like history, Sabaton History goes into the actual history behind their songs.

I've been following WWII for a while and jumped in mid-war with their Great War series. They have a third channel called time ghost that does a lot of other history. A lot of between two wars series on there.

There's a relatively new youtube channel called 'Reel History' that has a history professor analyzing historical films. He doesn't have much content, but he just finished Band of Brothers, and it's worth checking out if you are a fan of the series. He co-authored a book about Richard Winters which he refers to throughout his commentary.

Is it called "Reel Truth History Documentaries"?

I've got it pulled up, but can't tell if that's the channel you're speaking of.

Here's the link. Like I said, there isn't much content on there because it's fairly new, and he's had a few videos taken down. His commentary on BOB is good though.

You might check out Today I Found Out hosted by Simon Whistler (kind of similar to The History Guy, only with a British accent). Several of the segments cover historical topics ...

The Hunley

Operation Mincemeat

Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet

There are a lot more focused historians than general ones on YT. So you kinda have to do a little searcing at times on specific subjects.

For example, my go to for macro Napoleonic overview is Epic History TV. They did a 6 part series that is fantastic. Has another one on Alexander I need to watch soon myself.

HistoryMarche is another great channel that does a lot of the more ancient wars and figures. Recommend that channel as well. An example.

A "newer" upcomer is The Operations Room which focuses on more modern specific battles and events. More great production and very detail rich.

While not a historian type of presentation, the following is just the kind of history I enjoy most. It is about certain activities in and around Bletchley Park to build electronic computers during World War II to decrypt German messages.

One particularly interesting part has to do with the final decision on the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944. I had never heard that part before.

We do history through aesthetics, saying what can't be said with words.

Thanks for a lot of great replies/recommendations above. This is a newish/small channel I have enjoyed with some history on it, if mostly an Australian military focus;

Last year someone recommended the Time Team on YouTube. They go around finding archaeological sites in Britain. I found it interesting.

Yeah there are like 25 years of them going about doing that (some in France I think too). But it's all pre-HDTV for the most part, so that stinks. Great show in it's time however (see what I did there?)

Operations Room programs are really good. The one on Black Hawk Down had me flashing scenes of the movie in my head as I was watching it.

Air Ops of the first day of Operation Desert Storm is just as detailed.

Anything nazi/holocaust is a bit over-done/covered but this is a good one with other topics available;

Also, sort of a Timeline classic;

Not a historian per se (well, any more than Jeremy Clarkson is), but this is a bit fascinating;

Does Sapper Ag have any videos I can watch. I know he teaches at a colonial college I really liked when he posted here?

I've been watching Tasting History lately. The guy tries to recreate ancient recipes with some high level history thrown in.

There is a Swedish tv show called "The History of Eating". They cover a period of history then eat the food from said period. I would recommend it but it's all in Swedish.
