With great sadness I share with you that Jim passed away yesterday. He was a great author and historian. May our thoughts and prayers be with his family.

Sad to hear. I knew he was in bad health. His Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors was an excellent book.

Sad to hear.

Incidentally, I never saw it in a thread, but the wreckage of the USS Johnston of Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors fame was found a couple months ago.

Dang, hate to hear that. "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" was just a great read.

Aw man. This is horrible news! I loved his work. If you haven't read Neptune's Inferno and The Fleet at Flood Tide, you need to pick them up. Outstanding works! He will be greatly missed!

Saw him on a Nimitz Museum webinar last September. He was only 55.
