Humble brag, but I know some of those guys from reenacting. I'll be spending a weekend this summer in Virginia with some of them at Port Republic for a living history.

The lionheart film works has lots of good war/history movies on their YouTube channel as well.

If those are re-enactors, very non-FARBY good attention to detail.

My campaigning days have long since past. Was very active for about 20 years. Made nearly all of the 125th battles including the huge 1st Manassas event. Marched into the camp as the 2nd Louisiana (complete with white gaiters, white haversacks, kepis and white havelocks) and with musicians and a Pelican flag. But it has been at least 25 since I have seen the elephant.

1st Manassas Heavily favored on the Yankee side you see a glimpse of us at the 18 minute mark.

Those are the days that you wished you would have had GoPros. Our unit banned cameras from the field so the only photos we have are from camp followers and then they couldn't be in the battle line with you. I have old DC and New Your Times news papers with photos of us marching into camp as the headlines for the day.

That re-enactment set the gold standard for those that followed.

The early period of the war was the best time for the diversity of uniforms.

Pretty much can use the same uniform for most Union ( dark blue sack coat and sky blue kersey trousers) and Confederate (butternut/gray sack coat even dyed captured federal coat or a North Carolina pattern shell jacket with any color of trousers ) troops from 1863 onward when the uniforms were standardized for massed production.

Coincidentally, Samuel Richardson and his company of 1st Texas Partisan Rangers were in Austin in 1861 and reviewed by Gov. Edward Clark. He appeared to be a staunch Texan and Southerner. Here's some history on him.

Thanks for sharing. My GGF was a VMI New Market cadet along with his cousin who was KIA in the battle. My GGF's eventual BIL was in the 4th VA Infantry Regiment of the Stonewall Brigade. Really nice to see both uniforms portrayed.
