Come out this weekend to the San Jacinto Battleground Park and Monument for the 2020 San Jacinto Celebration and battle reenactment. I will be there representing Texas Cavalry. Link below has all your info if you would like to come watch.

I wish we didnt have little league games in the morning or I'd drag my boy to this. He'd love it.

Its not hard to pick up on what time of year it is from his broadcast.. Yall play with horses. That's an expensive hobby. More so than artillery. Unless you have the horse powered guns. That is nuts. I don't see how those guys do it.

I swear there was a marker at San Jacinto stating something to the efffect of "US Regulars fought here" or some such placement marker for the US "deserters" who fought and then un-deserted back into Louisiana. Last time I went I looked but didn't see it.

Thanks for volunteering. I wish I had the time to devote to that. It is important to visually see what happened.

Well you see, someone owns the gun and limber, several of us own the horses or mules. Show up to an event and we all meet up to assemble the team. Expensive nonetheless, but it is spaced out over a group of people. If someone can't make it to the event, the animals can still make it. Artillery is expensive but it is a one time major purchase, and then the cost of powder and gun maintenance can be divided up amongst the group. Horses on the other hand, are a daily expense.

The San Jacinto Battleground & museum have events all the time that would be worth taking the kids to. You likely won't have to wait another year for some sort of reenactment or demonstration.

For example:

Quote:

BOOM! Have you ever wondered how to load a cannon or seen one fired? This weekend, visitors to the San Jacinto Monument can learn how to load a cannon and watch regular cannon demonstrations. It will be a blast, literally!
When: Saturday, June 10; 11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.; cannon fire will be on the hour and the half hour
Where: Outside the San Jacinto Monument
