On August 1, 1943 the B-24 Liberator bomber in which Elton Gomillion, 22, of Iola, Texas was flying crashed in Romania. Via DNA testing, his remains were found and accounted for March 30, 2023. I'd go to the funeral if I could but have to work.

My great uncle, Franklin Forrester class of 39' from Smithville, Texas, was a navigator on a B24 that was shot down bombing the Ploesti oil fields. He spent the duration of the war as a POW.

Like Gomillion, he was a great man. The tales he told of his POW time were something else. I wonder if he knew Gomillion.
