Just finished this new 6 part series. I really enjoyed it. Curious if anyone else has watched it and what thoughts y'all had.

Do you have any thoughts, because I am not going to subscribe just to see it? But willing to discuss any ideas you thought were intriguing.

how is this any different that Vietnam HD, the Ken Burn Vietnam, or one i think it the best, is Vietnam: 10000 day war (i wish they'd replay this on history channel instead of ancient aliens)

Here are list of others:

On episode 2 where they start the Tet offensive. ...

They start out with some MPs driving around Saigon then go to footage of the surprise attack on the US Embassy Saigon.

Wild part of this is they show media crews already gathered out side of the building doing interviews. One of the crews was CBS News, standing there doing a shot with people running around the background taking cover.

Then they do a press conference immediately after the building cleared with a diplomat involved in a dramatic made for tv rescue.

Reminded me of the famous amphibious landing in Gulf War 1 where Marines come up the beach and are greeted by CNN cameras and a microphone in their face.

Looking back on all this looks surreal.

Was the media tipped off about the Tet offensive?

I think you underestimate how much media was in Vietnam, and the embassy would have had a huge presence. They have their own networks of information and would have known something was starting without being given many - if any - of
the details.

AFVN was in Vietnam, you could watch the news and sports, if you were somewhere it was picked up. I walked into the 5th SF O Club at the end of the day once and they were broadcasting clips from the moon landing. I didn't even know we had gone to the moon until I saw that. When the 5th SF commander, COL Rheault, was sent to LBJ for supposedly condoning the tossing of a VC prisoner out of a helicopter to make the others talk you couldn't turn around for days without bumping into some reporter. That incident never happened BTW.

Unbelievable footage throughout this show.

Wild story on Episodes 4 and 5 about the Navy pilot shot down by a female anti-aircraft gunner. Somehow they track this lady down and interview her. Says she was an ammo runner and took over the gun when the gunner got hit.

Episode 6 is the evacuation of Saigon shows footage and interviews with one of the last 11 guys at the embassy. Also shows the south Vietnamese pilot that landed a Cessna on the US carrier when they dumped a bunch of helos off the deck. Interviewed the 5 y/o kid onboard the Cessna.

Story about the 2Lt running a mission over the radio while not leaving the camp was also wild.

Very well done show. Amazing that any of that footage even exists and they were able to track down the people in it.

Weaves a bunch of storylines together using archived footage and the people in that footage. Often times the would give the person an ipad with the footage of them on it and you'd see their wtf reaction to seeing themselves on video they didn't know existed.

Narration was a minimum. They let the video and the people in the video tell the story.

Very well done show. 6 episodes. Got no criticism of it.
