Lt. Col. Matt Urban (formerly known as Matthew Louis Urbanowicz)

Take the time to read this guy's bio: Urban Bio at Wikipedia. Men like him were ridiculously unbelievable heroes.

  • Medal of Honor awarded in 1980 for actions in France in 1944 (delay in award was due to paperwork being lost because personnel who wrote up the recommendation were KIA)
  • Wounded 7 times
  • Silver Star & Purple Heart for action in North Africa
  • 2nd Silver Star for action in Sicily
  • Ended up with two more purple hearts - on several occasions was severely wounded and kept fighting.
  • Legion of Merit
  • Bronze Star with Valor device and two bronze oak leaf clusters
  • Legion of Merit
  • Croix de Guerre with Star
  • And many, many others

How About Jack Treadwell?
In addition to the Medal of Honor, Treadwell also received the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star with V device and two oak leaf clusters, Purple Heart with three oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Award numeral 13 and Army Commendation Medal. His awards also include, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Senior Parachutist Badge. He has also been awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Silver-Gilt Star and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Gold Star.

During his military career from World War II through the Vietnam War, Jack Treadwell earned every U.S. Army award from the Air Medal to the Medal of Honor except the Distinguished Service Medal, and is the only American soldier to ever achieve that distinction.
