It's crazy when you think about it - in order to fire an employee, who rightfully should be fired for poor and unacceptable job performance that's on him, you have to pay him 80 million dollars. Does this situation exist anywhere else, outside of the world of college football?

That may be true, but the Aggies took it to a new level when we did Jimbo's contract. Don't for a second think what we did with Jimbo's contract was "normal." We blazed a new trail, a very bad trail.

Why? The BOR and Sharp wanted a coach that had won a championship before. Jimbo would have been a dumbass to not get a guaranteed payout. There isn't a single major D1 coach without guaranteed money in their contract.
Our next coach is going to have a guaranteed contract too.

That may be true, but when A&M signed Jimbo there was not a single contract in college football with as much guaranteed money as Jimbo's.
Raiders just did it for $85m. They said they're doing a few things to reduce the big buyout tho, I think.

I'd check the price of oil, and the real estate market, and the current interest rates before making any assumptions about what rich people will/won't do regarding Jimbo's buyout
Fire for cause. He isn't coaching so he's in breach of contract.
The posters lecturing about contracts and this is just how it is done don't know anything about business, or good business anyway. Fisher's contract, at least what is reported, is an abomination that no sane person should sign. Fisher could apparently show up once a week and there's not a damn thing anyone could do about it.
It's a free ride. But you already paid.
