Bringing my 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter to their first Aggie football game. My son came to the baseball regional against tu and is now obsessed with all things Texas A&M. Little sister is into whatever big brother is into, so we're in business.

My wife didn't go to A&M, and I've only been to 3 games since I graduated college in 2016. Two of those, I went solo.

What is the ideal schedule/events/activities we should do?

My son wants to try to get there early enough to high five players as they do the Spirit Walk (assuming they still do that). What else?

This is supposed to be the primary game day resource.

I don't see the schedule of events like for corps march in and player interactions. But it's out there somewhere.

Have a great time at the game!

Football games are LONG for that age. Be prepared to leave early. Or have something to keep them entertained if they stay. Consider ear muffs. It can be super loud if you sit near speakers.

Are you coming to this game? A 6:30 kickoff means it won't be too hot at the game, but be sure to find some AC in the afternoon.

as a dad with kids i found taking the children to meaningless games was the way to go. pick a game where ags are playing mcneese st, prairie view a&m or someone like that where the game is not in doubt. tickets are cheaper, games usually have some available space and if you have to leave early or go to the restroom 19 times missing another aggie td doesn't sting as much cause the game is already out of hand.

I found the opposite to be true. I've taken my now 7 and 4 year olds to a lot of games, and they stay the most engaged when the rest of the fan base is engaged at big games. It's the nothing games where the stadium is empty that I have the most trouble keeping them focused for 4 hours.

Pick out a game like LSU where we win in 7 OTs.

Not sure if they are open on game days, but there is a little ice cream shop in Aggie park up toward the drill field. They serve blue bell. They would probably like scampering around the pond some and if you get time take them over to The Gardens behind the Ag bldg. There are some kid friendly things to do there (watering plants/etc.) Enjoy your time with them. They won't stay young for long.

Maybe your kids are different but I found my kids were not that interested in going to a football game before the age of at least 8 or 9. I tried taking them when they were younger - -ie 2-5 range and just ended up having to leave early. My daughter never really got interested until she went to college herself. Now she's a huge college football fan (she went to Alabama).

BG is an evening game, so that's good. For sure don't take them to a really hot afternoon game sitting in the sun. They won't make it through the first quarter.

"The entire Fightin' Texas Aggie Football team will parade down Houston Street with the Aggie Band and Yell Leaders en route to their locker room. The team buses will drop-off on the north end of Houston Street (near the War Hymn statue & University Center parking garage) 2 hours and 15 minutes prior to kickoff. Fans are encouraged to line the parade route and yell on the Aggies as they make their way to the locker room for the game. Front row fans may even snag a high five from their favorite student-athlete."

Look in the Gameday Central link post above under "Know Before You Go" to find other gameday traditions and other events.

Thanks y'all.

Yes, we are coming to this game against BGSU. I don't have super high expectations, but I think they'll have fun. Great ideas.

I grew up coming to games with my dad since I was like 3, so this is a full circle moment. Kyle Field looks a little different now. My son won't ever catch an extra point behind the south bleachers or high five the players as they run out on the field, but hopefully he'll enjoy it at least half as much as I did.

is your wife going to be with you? She might actually prefer spending the game at the Association of Former Students building with your younger child.

The huge multi screen is set up in their big space for their big crowd, but there are smaller rooms, set up to watch the game that are ideal for people with small children. I seen to remember seeing sleeping children with parents in those smaller rooms, which might be helpful since this game will probably last past your children's bedtime. The restrooms are clean and uncrowded, and the air conditioning works great, and the whole building is much quieter than Kyle Field.

if they want to, they can of course step out of the association office and see all the activities in Aggie Park, visit with tailgaters who are still at their sites, and even catch an ice cream at the ice cream shop there in the park, and easily return to the association of former students building. In contrast, if you leave Kyle Field, you will not be allowed to return.

Start with beers at the chicken. Meet some random co-ed to go to midnight yell with.

Start saturday eating lunch at any classic Aggieland staple (I think the Chicken Oil is still closed).

Drink some beers at the chicken or a tailgate. Watch the Corps march in. Go to game with some electronics stashed for the kids in the second half.

This is assuming you have sons. Daughters... disregard all I have posted.

edit: re-reading your post, brink only son. Disregard if you end up bringing daughter.
