Hello,

I posted this in the Aggies Only section but thought it might get more traction here. I understand if the moderators disagree. Here it is:

Okay, where do I start. I'm busdriver89, meaning if you rode Holliman, Villa Maria, or 2818 back in the day, I was probably your driver. If you rode Scarlett/Munson you were wearing too much cologne or perfume. Anyway, I was there that September day when Larry Horton did what he did. If you know you know. I served three yeard in Puryear Hall (ESL), Ramp 6, and then elsewhere.

Right now, I'm in Chattanooga and I have a beautiful wife, life and two great young men. We are Aggies to the marrow, not some flag waver that you bought at the truck stop that says Alabama / Georgia / Tennessee / Florida / Vandy. Our vanity plates are, well, I shouldn't put that out there, lets just say they are very relevant.

My oldest is 10th grade trombone. All county, marching band, jazz band, you name it. Even the euphonium.
My youngest is 8th grate trumpet (and bugle), following in his brother's footsteps.

Our little suburb is exploding. The HS band was 25 members last year, 50 this year, and projected to be 100 next year. However, they haven't had proper uniforms in close to two decades. They are quite reputable, in the best way, in Hamilton County, as is our Director, and the MS Director who is feeding the HS.

Long story short, too late for that, they have been raising money for new uniforms and I'm trying to help. They would like to purchase 100 uniforms at $500 apiece. That's $50K. They have been working hard to reach their goal and are approximately half way there.

For the entire 16 years I have l lived here, I have bragged on the Aggies. I wear the gear, rain or shine, win or lose. We are Aggies, Aggies are we. I want to show my family that what I say is really true.

I have started a GoFundMe page.

You can see a video of one of one of their performances and you can see what I'm trying to do.

If you bleed maroon like I do, take a second to look, and if you think it's worth your money, we will be grateful. Literally, every dollar counts. It shows that Aggies are what we say we are.

Sincerely,
Randy (Busdriver 89, Intramural Ref, bartender.

Good luck.

Quick question, why are the uniforms so expensive?

$500 seems like a lot for a uniform.

What years did you drive the Holleman/Villa Maria route? I live in Plantation Oaks back in the mid 90's and was on that bus multiple times a day and can remember most of the drivers. Just want to make sure you don't owe me any money

Good luck on the fundraising. Will help how I can.

I drove from 87 to 90. I mostly drove 2818 because it was long. I lived on the Holliman route, along with some HS friends. You don't owe me a thing a do I don't owe you, just pay it forward like a good Aggie. The reason they are so expensive is because they are intended to last 10 to 20 years if necessary. I have a pic of the uniform but I need to get permission because it is modelled by the drum major.

That's actually pretty standard, prices have actually come down somewhat if you can believe that. They used to be closer to $1,000. They have to be made of quality, durable material so that they can endure several students over several years and their shelf life is still less than a decade.

We got new magnetic name plates every year, Mobile 1 has it's own magnetic door sign. And, I graduated in 1990 as the Class of 89 because I spent a lot of time driving busses in circles, and running up and down the flag football field and basketball court.

Here is it. And, by the way, these young adults aren't starting from scratch. They've been really humping it to reach their goal. I just want to show them what Aggie Nation can do. My wife always accuses me of lying or exaggerating, but if you have the receipts.........

Also, I don't know if I mentioned this but I thought the deadline was Next August, before marching band starts again, however they would like to make an announcement in December during their Christmas cantata that they have reached their goal and to recognize any who wants to be recognized. I was never a CT, but both of my boys have, in the opinion of the band Director, what it takes to take it to the next level, no matter what that path is. CStat, NYC, anywhere. But, first things first.

As a High School band boosters myself, I can relate to this cost and need. Band has gotten Extremely expensive over the years. $500 is reasonable for something meant to last 10 plus years. Best of luck on the effort!
