Will not allow their logo on any shirt with an American flag. Gonna have to cheer for the TT's.

Quote// LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Every Texas Tech home game has a theme that includes a special gameday shirt sold by Red Raider Outfitter.
That ranges from highlighting the cotton industry of West Texas to "Celebrate America", which is set for Saturday as the Texas Tech Red Raiders welcome Big 12 Conference newcomer Colorado.
However, this weekend, a gameday shirt won't be on sale.
Red Raider Outfitter owner Stephen Spiegelberg said the design and preparation for themes, including the "Celebrate America" game, begins months in advanced. Texas Tech Athletics approved the shirt quickly, but Colorado said it was "not interested."

Spiegelberg said adjustments were made to the original design and another one was sent for approval. And, once again, Colorado said it was not interested, he said.
"At that point, we pressed a little bit more and we were told they won't be licensing a product that had an American flag on it," he said.
He added they're aware other shirts are on the marketplace and Red Raider Outfitter was given the opportunity to remove the flag.

He said that was something they refused to do.
"At this point with our fanbase, we decided we would not be selling any type of Colorado merchandise in the store with the logo," Spiegelberg said. "We refuse to do that because Colorado would receive financial benefit from those shirts. And we don't think that anybody has the right to limit the use of the American flag in this great nation."
Speigelberg said despite not having an official gameday shirt on sale this week, Red Raider Outfitter is still going to donate to Lubbock's "Monument of Courage" initiative.
Each year, the store donated the proceeds made from each "Celebrate America" shirt to local charities benefiting veterans and the military.

"We've already decided that we're making our normal donation to Danny Koch, which is a war memorial here in Lubbock," he said. "It'll be used - adding a West Texas Purple Heart to his memorial. We're pleased to say that we're continuing to make that donation regardless of Colorado's intent to limit our ability to celebrate. We will continue to keep celebrating here."
He said all galvanized and Americana merchandise purchases will support those initiatives including to honor Specialist 5 Dwight Birdwell at the West Texas Medal of Honor Memorial.
KCBD has reached out to Colorado Athletics and has not received a response at this time.

If any school did that, I wouldn't be surprised by it being the one in Boulder, but curious to see if this is corroborated further.

I agree them not wanting to be on a tech shirt is fine, but if they refused to do so because they don't want to be on a shirt with the American flag like the guy claims, then I think it's weird.

Does this mean the rest of us don't have to send equipment and crews to Colorado the next time their state is being ravaged by wildfires?

Perhaps the decision maker at Colorado is a traditionalist and doesn't believe in putting the American flag on clothing?

It's a weird line to draw, but they have absolutely every right to limit the use of their trademarked logo for whatever reason they want

Normally I would agree, but in this case CU are being leftist ****s. Also, I hate coach loudmouth at CU.

One criticism you cannot levy against TT is being unpatriotic. Gotta give them credit for that.

Hoping Prime Time loses and half his team comes down with Raider Rash. Certainly a f***ed up day when I'm rooting for the tards, but I couldn't stand Neon Deon when he was at FSU, and he hasn't aged well.

Do people really believe making t-shirts with an American flag and CFB logos is patriotic? This idiot is giving a masters class in publicity.

This.

9/11 didn't happen last week. This is just a random week in November.

Are we mad LSU fans didn't wear black to the black out? No cause that's ridiculous. Why would we care about this just because TT is wearing the Red white and Blue?

The problem isn't Colorado, it's just that is where all the liberals escaping California have moved to. Luckily, it's mostly the conservatives Californians moving to Texas.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Update as of 8 p.m.: A University of Colorado spokesperson released the following statement:

We get requests to use our marks and often decline for any number of reasons. In this case, the decision was unrelated to the "Celebrate America" theme.

Our standards are consistently applied and are based on widely accepted licensing and trademark best practices used by national and global brands.

If they didn't hate America they'd let their trademark be used however Red Raider Outfitter owner Stephen Spiegelberg (chuckle) wanted.

They may have the right, but they are still a trash school if they have a problem with the American flag.

It could be a tough line to draw where too subtle is on the net, but between the shades, the chuckle, and accusing CU of being anti-American for protecting its mark I don't think I was particularly close to it.

Veterans Day is Monday.

But this still sounds like a stupid clickbait story to draw free publicity to some Tech vendor in the name of 'Merica.

Also agree with the poster who mentioned the use of the flag or flag themes on clothing -- always found that a little odd from ultra patriotic folks. The flag is not a fashion statement.

Forget the controversy, I want to know why Stephen Spiegelberg left the movie producing / directing business to make college t-shirts in Lubbock TX.
