They have 3 losses but went and played Ohio State and lost. Let's say Texas played Mcneese State and won. They would be 10-2 and squarely in playoff conversation.
If A&M had not played ND and beat some mid Major we would still be in playoff contention.
The Committe is gonna punish teams for scheduling and playing big time non conference games then there is no reason to schedule those games.
Get ready for all non conference games to be cupcakes.

Probably not, but it will definitely put to bed the idea that losing difficult OOC games can't hurt you if Utah or Vandy (with a win) stay ahead.
2 losses are better than 3. Notre Dame didn't even need a ranked win as long as the Irish only lost two. Getting a ranked win over USC was gilding the lily.

Oh their keeper, homer network ESIPN AKA "the committee" will definitely push to get them in. But that third loss, to a BAD Florida, objectively should keep them out. There's no precedent for a 3 loss team. Sorry, lurking sips

It would take a lot of unlikely losses to make it plausible this season, but "no precedent" for an at large team in year 2 of the 12 team playoff doesn't strike me as an especially strong argument.
Alabama seemed more likely than not last year but for the SMU last second loss to Clemson in CCG. Literally any other result seemed poised to have the 3 loss Tide supplant the losing ACC team.
