Ags lose 12 or 13 starters from this team, including basically the entire offensive line, and probably Conception (one of the best receivers in the country). The schedule, though not brutal, is significantly tougher than this year.

The extension was always going to leads to the disappointment next year.

That is why Elko was so mad post- game. He knew a win would earn him some grace for 8-4 next year.

As much as I wasn't a fan of the Elko hire, at this point we're stuck with him another 2-3 years at least.

There's a reason I said not to extend him until after November of NEXT year and as usual I was right about that..

I hope Elko proves me wrong and we roll through the playoffs and into the title game. We will see.

Elko is a good coach. I just don't understand why someone thought if was a good idea to give him a pay raise and a contract extension BEFORE he won anything. He already makes a lot of money. And I haven't heard his name mentioned at all for any of the open positions around college football.

Ok, so you'd not extend and let him walk. Who are you getting? Kiffen? That's also going to include a big buyout. Hire a coach from a lesser program (like one outside SEC and B1G)? An assistant? Doing nothing until next year wasn't realistic since not extending essentially guarantees you are getting a new coach.

I'm not saying that not extending isn't viable, but not extending and just evaluating next year definitely isn't viable. If you don't think he's worth it, that's fine, but it inherently means you have to find a new coach.

The Zoo is the Zoo because Elko is either the best coach in America, and we need to extend him ASAP, or we need to move on. There is never an in-between.

Yes a bunch of absolute losers who all predicted 8-4 or worse before the year are now bleeding over money they didn't put up to keep a coach who led us to 11-1 and a home playoff game in his 2nd year, has our recruiting lights out and alive for a shot at a natty. We do don't have to extend him, but he didn't have to stay. We just said we would like him to and he offered the conditions for staying that aligned with our revenue generation. Which is the only real reason to extend him in the first place…

It's crazy how many people on this board put the wrong emphasis on that one game. The team is 11-1 and there are people chirping about next years Lonestar Showdown being a do or die game. Bring 10-11 wins and a playoff birth anytime. One game win or lose isn't the most important program goal. Granted I want to see them win but perspective is a must. This team is play off bound after being projected a middle to lower tier team at the start of the year:

8-4 feels a little stretchy based on our schedule next year.

Why do you have to extend? We have better facilities, better NIL, better recruiting area, fans that are second to none. Sure, Penn State won a national title 40 years ago, but that's about all they can claim that is better. We need to start having some faith in what we've built. We have everything a coach needs to win here.

Although, I am sure some on here will be calling for a buyout next year, it will be premature. That doesn't mean the contract extension wasn't also premature. We need to start demanding Championships (at least at the conference level) before we give an extension. If another program comes calling, we need to not be afraid to let a guy walk. If he does, it means he can't see what we've built here, or he cares more about money. Neither are signs of a championship level coach.
