My Thoughts on the Aggie game
By Grayson Martin
My name is Grayson Martin, I am 17 and live in college station. I want to become a sports writer and this is my work so if you could please tell me what I can improve on and how I can grow my craft at writing articles.
After about 24 hours of thinking about it, I have come to a conclusion that this game could be our Ohio StateMichigan game. Let me explain.
One year ago to this date, Ohio State played Michigan, one of their most fierce rivals, and what happened? They lost. Their Heisman-contending quarterback had one of his worst games, throwing for 2 picks in the red zone. In fact, he had almost the same stats as Marcell Reed outside the rushing game. When going back to our game, I realized that Marcell was making some of the plays we saw last year before he began to turn it on inaccurate throws, his feet not being set, and overall not getting the ball out to an open receiver. Last year the O-line didn't have their best game, but this year it was a different story. He had time; it's just that he could not hit the deep shot when he needed to, and this goes into my next point.
Sadly enough, Marcell will most likely not be going to New York for the Heisman, but this might not be such a bad thing. As I mentioned before, Ohio State lost to their most feared rivals and look what happened they turned it on and ended up winning the national championship. Last night, I was listening to the call-in show, and either Louie or Dusty said something that stood out to me. All this year Texas A&M has been playing with fire, but what if this loss wakes up the team and they realize they cannot only play three quarters of football? In order to achieve our goals and make a deep playoff run, the Aggies must play as a complete team in order to live up to the hype.
While I have been talking about Texas A&M's performance, I sadly have to give credit to the Longhorns. They played out of their minds and brought their A-game. Even if the stats didn't show it, Arch did make plays when he needed to. Their run game exposed holes in ours, and we do need to work on it, and I believe Elko can turn it around.
In the end, while it does suck that we lost to Texas, in my opinion this loss will be our Ohio State moment. Plus, with Marcell being out of the Heisman, he can finally feel free from the pressure and be the player we have seen all throughout this season. This loss does not and will not define this team, but in order to become the team they can be, they must learn that playing three quarters will not work out down the road, and we must play as a complete and whole team.
