He's holding Ole Miss hostage with this threat of gutting the team - TODAY. trouble is, he's going to gut the team anyway. 80% of Old Miss' top producers will be on LSU next year. If you let him coach, the fan antipathy toward the team will crater their team morale, and they'll lose anyway. At least moving on from Lane allows your team, university, and fans a layer of dignity. Otherwise, you're literally sports ****ing your entire stakeholder population, for a team that's going to get booed.
