What scenarios put us in the Cotton Bowl?

Despite everyone's hemming and hawing about us being #7 in today's polls, I think you can only take that all with a grain of salt. This Ole Miss nonsense with Kiffin will prevent them from being ranked ahead of us by the CFP when the dust settles, which it hadn't as of last night.

That said, what scenario(s) puts us in the Cotton Bowl? Would it be us being at #6 or #7? Or is there some flexibility to all of it depending on who the higher ranked opponent is?

No it won't nor should it probably.

Not sure we have a path to the CB, only top 4 seeds spots are guaranteed, it is based on the seeding.

If technical is the #4 seed they will be in the Cotton Bowl and tied to the 5/12 winner. 1 seed plays 8/9 winner, 2 plays 7/10 and 3 plays 6/11.

As we are likley to be 6 or 7 seed we wouldn't go to CB with first round win, but it's all based on seeding. Very likely SEC champ will be ranked higher than Tech even if it's Bama.

Sugar Bowl was SEC vs Big 12 champ, so if SEC champ is higher they get seeded to Sugar Bowl, if not Big 12 would be seeded to Sugar Bowl.

PS - only accurate when Sugar Bowl is a QF game of course.

Quote:

The CFP selection committee will assign the four highest-ranked schools to Playoff Quarterfinals hosted by bowls. This will be done in consideration of historic bowl relationships, then in consideration of rankings. For example, if the Sugar Bowl hosts a Playoff Quarterfinal and an SEC school is ranked No. 1 and a Big 12 schools is ranked No. 3, the SEC school would be assigned to the Sugar Bowl and the Big 12 school would be assigned elsewhere.

The bowls are not tied to a specific ranking therefore it is difficult to predict who will go where at this current time.

Higher ranked team of big 10 loser vs Big 12 winner will be in Cotton Bowl. 5 or 6 depending on this ranking

But they are tied to conferences
B1G champ is one & will be at the rose bowl waiting on the 8/9 winner

SEC champ is 2 and waiting at the sugar bowl for 6/11
B1G loser seems likely to be 3 and waiting at the Orange for 7/10
Seems likely tech will be 4 get a bye and will be waiting at the cotton bowl for the winner of the 5/12

Of course I could be wrong on Corton Bowl and Orange bowl connections and nobody really knows who is going to be 3-5

I would like to see the committee manipulate the seeding, within reason, to accomplish fresh pairings.

- Spread SEC teams around.
- Insofar as possible, avoid possible rematches until semifinals, like A&M v. Notre Dame, Ole Miss v. OU or Georgia, Alabama v. OU or Georgia, etc.
You may not be a moron, but some people think you are.

They are not necessarily tied to conferences but it does list " schools/ conferences historical history with the bowl as a determing factor

The committee has the human factor and they like certain matchups.
I feel a possible A&M/Tech matchup in the Cotton Bowl will be on the table
