They fired their coach yesterday after only two years and hired Pat Fitzgerald today.

Out of all of the teams looking for a coach they did the best job so far in having the guy they wanted locked up.

I would say it was a tie between them and Okie St on that front.

On the one hand this proves the B10 is not a serious conference. On the other hand no B10 coach has a fake relationship with a dog.

I think Ok State got a gem. He'll be on every schools radar for the 2028 season.

Totally agree, Ok St got a really good coach. I was referring to that Mich had the guy they wanted locked up before firing their coach.

Not like Penn St who fired their coach and didn't have anyone jumping to take his spot.

Pat Fitzgerald wasn't bad at Northwestern, he was just limited to recruiting kids to a prestigious private school.

7.2% of applicants get into Northwestern, were as at Michigan St, its 84.8% are accepted.
Can't decide if I want to be cute & cuddly, or go blow some sh*t up.
Decisions decisions.

Not to mention a team trying to unionize

I was hoping Elko would go out and get Pat as an analyst when he got canned from Northwestern. I think he'll kill in Lansing

Why do you think athletes are subject to the same entrance requirements as non-athletes?

Elko should have gone after him for our offensive coordinator with a nice salary package.

The guy has been working as a volunteer assistant at the high school level for the last three years. Before that he left Northwestern in semi disgrace due to a hazing scandal but people also seem to forget that Northwestern was settling into a mediocre team in the B10 before the scandal.

Isn't Northwestern being a mediocre B10 team an accomplishment in itself? They aren't exactly worldbeaters. Get a team like that above perennial doormat and call it a win.

He had double digit wins 3 times, made a bowl game in 10 out of 16 seasons winning 5, and finished the year ranked 5 times including a top 10 ranking….at Northwestern.

His last season coaching at Northwestern Fitzgerald finished 1-11 and last in the B10. The year before that he finished second to last in the B10. After that he spent three years as an advisor to a high school team. That is not exactly a resume that screams B10 head coach hire.

Bold move. They are still involved in legal battles with Mel Tucker that will require them to pay $80M if they lose and now they are paying $33.5M to get rid of Jonathan Smith. I think they just fired their AD too. I know they are making $60M+/yr in TV revenue like the rest of the B1G, but that still seems like a lot to have hanging over your head.
