Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Ole Miss names Pete Golding, first as interim HC on Sunday and then later the same day, as new HC. Doesn't that trigger a five day window for existing Ole Miss players to file for the portal? Meaning Friday is the deadline before the Committee makes their final rankings?

Charlie Jr calling the plays for ole Miss.

I believe It's a 15 day window that opens 5 days after the coach is named.

Golding is DC now HC. And naming him as HC and not interim triggers a transfer portal for existing players after a HC leaves. If that is incorrect, please let me know.

You're correct. Just saying Jr will be calling plays during playoffs

Aah! Thanks! I was confused by that.So Ole Miss can still get screwed if Kiffin poaches their players.

I don't think any contributors will leave before the playoffs . Why would they?

Maybe join another playoff team? They could play right away, in theory, right?

So if they file for the portal in a timely manner, they can still play in playoff games?

They can still play if the coach wants them to.

But remember, they still have the January window to enter. So they don't have any decision they have to make now.

So they don't have to choose? I mean, the exception is specifically only for players when the HC leaves. Get two bites at the apple? That seems screwy to me.

Of course the whole transfer portal thing without losing eligibility is screwy to me.

Everyone has the January window.

But if you get a new coach you didn't sign on for, get a chance to leave right then. I don't think that aspect is screwy at all.

The transfer portal window is January 2-16th (except for players from the two teams in the National Championship game, who get 5 extra days). You also get a window when there is a head coaching change. The purpose of this is to give players a chance to enter the portal if the coaching change is made after the first window. If would be unfair if the window closed, then there was a coaching change, and the players were just stuck with the new guy.

I just think that breaking letters of commitment should mean something. And NIL contracts, for that matter. Teaching responsibility and honoring one's commitments as a large part of coaching kids into men.

But I am an old.
