It's really close to us, and produces about one five star per class. Most recent DJ lagway and Jermaine Bishop. Nobody sniffing Texas A&M. Does their coach hate us? What's the deal?

Their current freshman QB is breaking records and making a run in the playoffs . His dad played cornerback at A&M. Hopefully an Aggie lock.

We used to wax them back in the day - it seemed like they were always in the bottom half of the district (that was forever ago, though)

I don't live in Texas anymore and haven't thought about them since Lagway's recruitment.

1. When did they become 6a?
2. How did they get so good?

Didn't check out the team, history, etc., but head coach is Trent Miller, graduate of TAMU-Commerce. That's what his LinkedIn says. Now it's East Texas A&M. Commerce is in the Greenville/Sulphur Springs/Paris "triangle" if you will.

Sometimes close proximity isn't a positive thing. I started out college at a school an hour or so from home, and transferred to A&M after freshman year, not because I bled maroon (though I converted once I got there), but because it was farther from home. Maybe kids from Willis want away from the near hometown team.

My brother's team (Forney) just lost to Willis this past Saturday. His Notre Dame bound RB vs. tu bound Bishop. Bishop played both ways, looked pretty solid...
