I checked our 2021 Class and found 70% of the HS signees transferred out. Obviously that is a high number and can be explained by the coaching change.

For comparison, I checked the attrition rates of Ohio State and Georgia 2021 classes. Both programs were highly successful during the past 5 years and had the same head coaches, very stable.

Ohio State had 58% transfer out, and Georgia had 50%. The best programs still lost at least half their HS recruits to the portal.

It's a crapshoot for every program!

These guys are now paid professionals and you're surprised there is no loyalty to your school, or any school that competes in "college" athletics?

You have to remember that these top tier athletes, while working hard to get where they are, have also had all their youth sports catered to and built around them. They expect to be playing immediately. When that doesn't happen, they're going to be looking for a place where it will happen.

I don't think the transfer out rate is all that important without some context. Are the players transferring out because they can't crack the starting rotation, or are you losing key contributors?

Transfer rate to other P4 conference teams would be a useful indicator of quality loss. When it's as high as 78% though, you know it's bad regardless.

Thanks for posting OP.
With the advent of the transfer portal and NIL this attrition rate will continue at a relative high rate for most major programs.
I would not be surprised that in four years Half the class that we signed today is no longer at A&M.
That's not a shot at Coach Elko or A&M it's just the world we live in today in college football.
