Ole Miss - 68%
Miss State - 68%
Vanderbilt - 64%
Kentucky - 59% (fired coach)
LSU - 59% (fired coach)
Mizzou - 59%
Auburn - 50% (fired coach)
MEDIAN - 48%
Alabama - 45%
Oklahoma - 45%

Tennessee - 45%
A&M - 45%
South Carolina - 32%
Florida - 23% (fired coach)
Georgia - 14%
tu - 14%

Bolded CFP teams. These numbers just demonstrate how important the portal is to every SEC team. Seems about 45% of starters from the portal is the sweet spot but going over that is risky for a coach.

A big factor is attrition. How many players did each team lose to the portal, the draft, and career-ending injuries? Also, new coaching hires are likely to rely on the portal more heavily as they rebuild from the ground up.

Agree. That's why I looked at all 16 teams to get a general idea of how much the portal is being used. Note no new SEC coaches started the 2025 season.

Bottomline is the median SEC team gets half its starters from high school recruits and half from the portal.

Higher numbers probably indicate instability in a program, poor HS recruiting or poor player development or low NIL budget.

For a team that regularly gets four and five star players, 20% is probably a good ratio. But that would very with position. Some positions don't correlate to well to stars. So picking up high performers in the portal is highly likely.

I think ours goes down next few years - as long as (or if) Elko continues to have success. He had a lot of holes to fill the last couple of years.

Question...
Does the "Transfer Portal" include JuCo transfers? Prior to "the Portal" some athletes did transfer (with a 1yr eligibility loss) and then you had a decent chunk of players coming up from two years at JuCo.

I'm assuming all of those are just lumped together now as players coming out of the portal.

It would be interesting to see this broken down even further to break out SEC to SEC transfers.
I know a lot of our transfers did come from other SEC schools but I'm not sure how many are "starters".

This would maybe give a better indication of the level of HS recruiting success in the SEC. Even if the recruits couldn't necessarily shine at their original school.
