I think we should be ranked ahead of Ole Miss for several reasons.
1. We played one more road game than Ole Miss because we played Notre Dame on the road, while Ole Miss played Washington State at home. 10-2 Notre Dame was coming off a bye week and playing a night home game against us, but we pulled out a 41-40 road win. In contrast, Ole Miss was coming off a bye week when they played 6-6 Washington State at 11:00 AM central, which is 9:00 AM pacific and escaped with a 24-21 home win.
2. We have a higher average point differential than Ole Miss in conference play: 10.5 points to 7.7 points. 4 of our 7 SEC wins were by 17+ points each, including road wins over LSU and Missouri. In contrast, Ole Miss had one such win over Mississippi State and 2 other 10+ point SEC wins over South Carolina and Florida.
3. We have 5 common opponents: Arkansas, LSU, South Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi State, and we had a higher average point differential: 13.4 to 11.2.
Arkansas: Ole Miss had a 41-35 home win, and we had a 45-42 win. Verdict: even
LSU: Ole Miss squeaked by with a 24-19 home win over LSU, and we demolished LSU 49-25 on the road.
Verdict: Texas A&M
South Carolina: Ole Miss had a 30-14 home win, and we had a 31-30 comeback home win after trailing 30-3 at halftime. Verdict: Ole Miss
Florida: Ole Miss had a 34-24 home win, and we had a 34-17 home win. Verdict: Texas A&M
Mississippi State: Ole Miss had a 38-19 road win, and we had a 31-9 home win. Verdict: Even
In summary, we are ahead of Ole Miss against LSU and Florida and even with Ole Miss against Arkansas and Mississippi State. South Carolina is the only common opponent in which Ole Miss clearly played better than we did.
