Just a simple question. I figure if BYU wins, tech falls behind us probably around 1 or 2 spots. BYU is to far away at the 11 spot to move ahead of us. We move up to the 6 spot? Am I getting warmer??

I don't. I don't think techs behind us but BYU could move above. That means if Alabama wins also we could end up not hosting.

This would be BYU's only impressive win all year. Give me BYU. Hard to logically put them in front of us.

Committee probably makes it a 7-10 matchup between Alabama vs BYU if both win. I'd guess a 7-10 A&M vs Alabama if BYU loses and Alabama loses (or 7-10 A&M vs Miami). And probably 8-9 A&M vs OU if BYU loses and Alabama wins.

I assume they'd view a ND vs A&M rematch and OU vs Alabama rematch as stupid as most would.

Tech is getting a pseudo pass for their loss. No one cares about big 12, so no one watched when the lost. Which is why most people dont realize they didn't have their starting qb, so the committee isn't punishing them as much.

Im not saying that's how it should be viewed, but that's why.

While not the case for me, people on this board watch 10 times as much college football as people on committee. Which i guess is part of the problem.

I am afraid "the committee" will not punish TT for losing in the conference championship game. We cannot afford BYU to move ahead of us.

No, cow is not making the playoffs no matter what happens. They are toast and going to the citrus bowl. They get to play a meaningless game that starts in the morning along with two other meaningless bowl games at the same time.

The Committee decisions are propped up by fiction.

Tech is favored by 12, this would be a sizable upset if they lose. If that's the case then they should drop like we did after losing to Texas as only 3 point favorites

Kirk Herbstreit actually said that on gameday this morning. He even admitted that releasing the rankings weekly is pointless because the only thing that matters is ranking them at the end of the season when all of the data is in. He was saying this in reference to Miami and Notre Dame and saying how if they weren't ranking them week to week and they would just release a ranking at the end of the year Miami would obviously be ahead of Notre Dame and no one would even question it. the problem is that the Irish went on a 10 game winning streak and Miami lost a couple of games during that span so they ended up dropping behind and then they got put in a box here at the end now that Miami got caught back up and they are both 10-2

If a loss to Texas means dropping 4 spots, I think a loss to BYU would be at least 4

BYU wins they probably pass us, and tech won't go behind us because they shouldn't, they played a conference championship game

Just to end the romance with ND every year would be nice. Tired of special rules just for them. They haven't won a title since 1987 (IIRC) despite the near perennial opportunity to do so. Now maybe they were a bit hampered during the BCS regime but that was by their own choice remaining as an indy in a structure that stressed conference members.

I think the only realistic road scenario for us is if BYU wins and they move them to 8 and us to 9. On the road at BYU. Would that be better than ND, Bama or Miami at home?

Tech would have 2 losses at that point and you'd think they'd move them below us. Who knows, though. This committee is a funny bunch of squirrels.

Committee doesn't want a BYU win that would mean two power 4 conferences wouldn't be playing next round. Big10 all on bye with iu, OSU, and Oregon all on bye. ND and Miami likely out with 2 big12 teams in so an ACC rep is unlikely if Duke wins

I think a close BYU win gives us the best shot to move up a spot. Question is will they move/keep either of those teams above us. I think when you look at our best win ND, and our loss Texas it's going to be hard to drop us from that perspective.

If BYU wins, ND and Miami are out. BYU should not jump us for any reason. BYU and tech should be behind us with BYU win. Everyone else slide up a spot. But there is no real criteria or common sense that the committee uses.
