Exact numbers aren't given but they are broken into groups based on how much they spent.

Elite:
Ohio St
Oregon
Tech
Miami
A&M

Big Spender:
Ole Miss

Good, but not as elite as you think:
Alabama
Georgia
Oklahoma

Solid Spender:
Indiana

Great for G5:
Tulane

Ok for G5:
James Madison

Pretty sure Auburn and LSU were like 1-2 in the portal last year so they would be near the top with fired coaches to show for it.

Keeping Bisontis
Getting KC
Getting Carver
Getting/keeping Howell

We have lots of high contribution transfers. They may not all be break the bank guys, but just like recruiting - your overall class is usually less about your top guys and more about the meat of the group and how good that segment looks.

be cool calculate all the costs

LSU spent $40m on a roster and then fired their coach thats $94m flushed right down the drain, this is not sustainable

Auburn something similar
Texas something similar minus fired the coach
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Vandy
Michigan
Clemson
Florida State
Colorado
Penn St
on and on and on

I would not be suprised adding up the numbers for teams that didnt make it is well over $250m

that is literally insane

It is not sustainable without the TV $s mostly going into the roster and staff. Makes no sense for it to shoulder the financial burden for all the other NCAA products. Sorry, but just the reality. The system is gone, and it is never coming back. Schools will need to find a new pathway to fund athletics.

Says the team that is spending much more getting rid of Jimbo and his staff…

Nobody really knows how much is really being spent unless youre on the inside.

However, Aikman spent a lot. He didn't even get a thank you and it was a complete failure.

Elite recruits are in their golden age right now because soon the bottom will fall out. Only a select number of programs can keep this amount of athlete pay. The programs will stratify and it will no longer be entertaining to watch the same story every year with the same exact teams

Not to mention all of these NIL donors are trying to buy a championship while this is all new. Once they've spent 10s of millions with nothing to show for it, the enthusiasm is going to cool and NIL will be what it was meant to be: Student using their name, image and likeness to help generate revenue for a business, and said business paying them for their services.

This is what they were saying 2-3 years ago, too..yet we have Vandy and Indiana way outperforming. It's a change for the better since it was always Alabama, Clemson with an occasional side of Georgia, LSU.

if they had not made it I woudl have included them, my point is only that this is not sustainable, if we assume that each season north of $200m will be spent on rosters that dont make the playoffs, that is crazy talk

true, but there will always be new donor wanting to be connected and think of themselves as "insiders"

and you don't need donors for the $20 million in revenue sharing.

that does bring up an interesting point

I read that NCAA Football has twice the viewership ratings and half the revenue of the NBA

It's all got to come from somewhere. Whether donors are funding coaching salaries, season ticket (suite) contracts and permanent seat licenses backing long term capital projects, or NIL...

It's all coming from donations and media rights.

Youre only a couple years in.

Pocket books are fresh and the new market has just emerged. It will level out and reset. A lot of these kids are getting ridiculous amounts before ever producing anything at the collegiate level

True. I just don't see the 5 million plus for a singular athlete being a thing forever. I could be wrong, but I would think the sting of paying all that money for average results would cool the fires a bit.

Marcel did say he received offers after his freshman season and his response to being asked what he would do if Miami offered 4 million was that he'd have to speak with his parents. Now mind you, the following statements were very pro A&M and he is happy as can be (so dont panic)

Which after two years looks like a GREAT decision. Not the sick burn you think it is.

In that hypothetical, one would have to take an offer like that seriously.

There literally are no rules. Everything is still working at the moment, but coaching contracts, NIL, and the portal will eventually destroy college football. There are limits to everything. We need rules.
Haleyscomet50

The spending on recruits is what will eventually have to give. Even Saban at his best might have 7-10 future starters and 2 elite players out of a 25 person class. It's hard to evaluate high school talent and to spend tens of millions when half the class won't pan out is rough.

People who use words when they don't understand the meaning reduces the credibility of their thinking to meaningless.

I bet you are fun at parties, faux intellectuals are usually a big hit
