If I was a QB that wasn't a top 10 pick, but was a late 1st rounder, why stay in school? Start the 2nd contract clock now, more importantly, go to a good team, with good mgmt and coach and significantly improve your chance at a mega deal vs stay in school, improve your draft stock and play for NO, Jets, LV

Because there's no guarantee they would be a late 1st rounder. They can make just as much or more annually as a late 1st rounder by staying in school.

QB's don't sustain career ending injuries that often. They'll make as much or more staying.

Missing my point. Yes, you "might" make more staying in college, but if the Rams (for example) drafted you, you'd be coached by SM and be set up for 55/60M year.

jaxon dart got 4 years $16.9mm guaranteed. 8.9mm at signing. which ncaa kids getting that? none.

plus as OP pointed out, its one year closer to the all important second contract.

That is what Nussmeier did this year w/LSU. Not sure that was a good idea for him.

Most will not get the second contract you are thinking about. Here are the guys drafted after #10 over the last 15 years:

Bo Nix
Kenny Pickett
Justin Fields
Mac Jones
Jordan Love
Dwayne Haskins
Lamar Jackson
Paxton Lynch
Johnny Football
Teddy Bridgewater
EJ Manuel
Brandon Weeden
Christian Ponder
Tim Tebow

Only Lamar and Jordan got lucrative second contracts. Bo probably will, but most do not.

Just for argument sake, what if the Rams or a very good team told you they are picking you with their late first round pick. I'd leave immediately

What late 1st round pick can be so sure about not only where they'd go, but what their development there would look like?

How often does this scenario happen? Because I wouldn't trust a team based solely on what they've told me. You know, "business decisions" and such.

Is there someone that was offered this type of "promise" that said no thanks, or is this all just a very precise hypothetical?

How do they get the teams that draft before them to go along with that plan?

You can't. But if I had a late 1st early 2nd round grade and a good team said they were taking me in the 20's, I'd declare vs getting 4M in college

Yes, Nussmeier was ass this year and downgraded his professional stock. However, he probably made more this year than he would have made in the NFL.

I understand, this year in the NFL he was probably riding the bench and wouldn't have been downgraded if he had made the opening day roster based on this year's performance. However, his Dad is the OC of the Saints. He will be given a shot and will be on a roster next season (either practice squad or as a backup).

In a vacuum if you knew for certain....then probably. If you are getting Carson Beck money though...I don't know.
