Yes Marcel has a turnover problem when he's under pressure and he has no options but throwing. That's something that winners don't do. But ultimately, the game was lost because of two other things. The two things that matter more than anything in football. Running the ball and stopping the run. We couldn't do either. And even though we had very little success stopping their run, our run blocking is horrible.

After the quarterback, the most valuable players on the team aren't the skill players. It's the linemen. It's why NFL teams draft great offensive lineman very very high in the first round. They can't be replaced.

We got bit again by bad run blitz fills in the second half leaving gaping hole to run through by the Cane's RB.

OP is correct, Miami owned the LOS. Hopefully we can transfer and recruit linemen on both sides of the ball. And oh yes, linebackers please.

Our defense did enough to win. At some point you're going to be exposed if your offense has nothing to offer. If your QB is inconsistent at best when passing, then your run game is toast.

Ags just aren't tough.

The tougher team won today and Ags can be thankful it was only by one score.

Ags are soft and I suppose Warren Sapp is right

I thought they would have no issues because they SEC and Miami is lowly ACC

Didn't someone say that Miami would be shocked when they saw what SEC athletes looked like?

kind of seems like the game was lost based on Marcel missing what shouldn't have been any difficult pass. Yeah we couldn't get the run game going very well, but three bad turnovers makes for a pretty easy root cause analysis on this one.

Well, there are particular issues within every game, but in general this is correct. Football has never changed since inception. Want to be consistently good and beat teams, you need to be able to run stop run.

What is strange is that we stuffed run most of the day until end. Those few plays are huge with this team and they consistently happen. And on flip side we almost never hit them ourselves.

The QB was trash today, the OC was trash today, the OL was trash today, and the HC was trash today, pretty sure people are blaming the right people. Nobody made him throw those int's though, that was just terrible QB play by a terrible QB.

We will win with a serviceable / decent QB play. Reed is clearly not a championship caliber QB. Bail on him and bring in a new transfer QB. If not then Elko will get run off in 2-3 yrs.

Reed played bad but not the 1st time.

Our OC called a terrible game and did not leverage the advantages we have.

Why the hell would u continue to drop Reed as a pocket guy all damn game?

Because your offensive line was getting **** on, and you ran for 70 yards. Because your offensive line was being destroyed on the edges, inhibiting his ability to do anything other than stand in the pocket, of which, he's not a good QB, so you immediately lose.

My issue with Reed isn't that he "lost the game for us".. he definitely is a reason we are in games.. (both things can be true at the same time)

but damn - over half the bubble screens were behind the receiver so they couldn't get momentum downhill, constant wild overthrows or skipping the ball into wide open receivers...

He is just not an accurate passer...

We had our chances. The biggest issue outside of 1-2 drives is Marcel is horribly inaccurate. Go back and watch and you will see balls thrown high, balls thrown at players feet. Heck even when he checked the ball down for an easy pass the receivers had do gymnastics to catch the ball.

On those check downs if he leads them a tiny bit we break a few extra big plays/pick up some first downs. Instead the receivers are having to stop all of their momentum and try and catch a poorly thrown ball before running.

On a windy day against an inaccurate QB, Miami sold out against the run and dared Reed to complete passes.'

Reed couldn't complete easy passes or see open receivers even when schemed up for him. Don't know how that gets fixed.

O-line can't be expected to hold up when the DL knows they can tee off play after play

There were plays to be made and we did not complete the pass of finish the completion into the endzone and it came back to haunt us.

Beck never had to make a play with his team down. If he had, I think he would have pressed and our defense makes a big play.

Also, every time our offense was in rhythm the refs stopped it or there was an injury. The last injury should have been targeting.

The last play was an extremely bad play call bc Miami had covered the middle of the field all game. Do crosses and rub routes. Not that basic route in the middle.

Mike Leach said he looked for accurate passers when recruiting. The rest can be taught, but accuracy is pretty much baked in. Reed CAN be accurate, but he frequently isn't... And sometimes is very inaccurate.

You're not wrong. The concern I see is that we've known about the run game issues all season and they never seemed to get addressed...addressed by a HC calling the defense. Either its a scheme problem because we sell out too much to rush the qb or Elko is just not that good at fighting the ship

Reed was a 55% passer in high school. Look to him to do the same next year and the year after.

Good receivers make mediocre QBs look great. And this year, we had Craver and Concepcion. But if the QB regresses, there's only such much they can do.

Could not agree with you more.
If you cannot run the ball or stop the run, you are likely to struggle rgardless of who your quarterback is.
We used to have great running backs who moved people on short yardage and more. With backs like Ja'mar
Toombs and Jorvorskie Lane, on this offence, we would be unstoppable.
Great season to build on and hope we will get better.

It was about 85% Marcel. Not sure who else would be to blame besides the typical few bone head plays Klein calls every game and some average oline play

Our difference-makers always disappear in big games. Don't know why; they always say the right things. But when the season is on the line, they fade into the woodwork ... or worse, stink up the joint.

You can't win championships with sporadic flashes of brilliance and long stretches of mediocrity.

If you cannot run the ball, the D plays coverage to stop any open WRs, making the passing game even harder for a QB who is not overly accurate.
