ND and SC miracles and a soft SEC schedule and we were playing on borrowed time with a good W/L record. We wanted to believe we were good. No dice, same old. The off season starts again.

We played 2 good teams all year and went 0-2. If we played a normal SEC schedule we were 8-4 at best. Prob 7-5.

Note Dame is a good team. Would have been interesting if Mizzou had their QB when we played them.

Great season. A healthy Moss and you're all wrong about how good this team was.

Too much was on Marcel's shoulders today and he played scared after first pick.

oh. It's not so bad. Old A&M would have lost some of those softer games as well.

But, clearly there is work to do.

No, we played 3 good teams and went 1-2. I agree we are not as good as 11-2 would normally suggest, but we were still good. Just not great. Good teams consistently beat mediocre and bad teams. We did that. We just weren't good enough to beat great teams. Other than South Carolina, we took care of the lesser teams as we should, and at least we didn't lose to South Carolina. Overall, a good season. I still think 2012 was far and away our best team of this century.

We played the schedule in front of us and went 11-1, and then ended up 11-2 with a quarterback and/or OC who regressed significantly over the last few games. It's not the end of the world. Klein's gone and the portal is there. Reload.
I resolve in 2026 to be more tolerant and respectful of trolls and emotionally fragile, overly pessimistic posters so they don’t run crying to the mods and have me banned for three days.

We can now take a clear look on how this season unfolded:

1. We were very unimpressive against our early cupcake games. Even the Samford game looked bleak.
2. ND, our "good win" didn't make the playoffs and even pundits were questioning the Irish schedule. They're a good team just nothing to write home about.
3. We beat the bottom 2 sec teams by 4 points.
4. Our 2 losses came against two schools with winning conference records

You can give me all the "buts" in the world but the above clearly tells me we are a top level tier 2 SEC football program this season. Elko took half a step forward this year and not a giant leap that our record makes it look like.

We were hyped because we never played our A game and still won. Turns out we just couldn't get there.

Schedule was soft but not gonna take anything away from the team winning 11 games in the SEC in any year.

Definitely were not serious natty contenders though

TU was trash and they dominated us. Elko needs to make serious changes.

Good lord, they did not dominate us. We dominated the first half, they dominated the 3rd qtr.

Of course we weren't. We just refused to listen when everyone trashed our soft schedule. This was our best chance to make people notice us and we fell on our face. It doesn't help that the nation got to see our fans doing the horns down during our own game. We had our chance and blew it.
And another season ends in embarrassment.

This. Texas still has one of the most talented rosters in the country and a good head coach. In fact, Sark coached circles around Elko in that second half.

We were really good at times.

I dont think we'd repeat it.

I also dont know if we'd lose to tu and Miami again.
Agsrback12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A QB like Pavia and we are still playing and probably just beat Miama like a drum.

We had a really good receiving corp and a capable enough offensive line and defense for a really good QB to make a huge run.

Yup. It was a modest step forward.

Not the end of the world. But not an "arrival" yet.

And, we need to call a spade a spade here. It wasn't all coaching. Elko can only get our guys in a position to make plays. Which he did. Did enough to win.

Our players just couldn't get it done. (Reed needs some help. He has talent.)

This is why we keep giving extensions to coaches before they've actually accomplished anything and end up with the overall results we've had. We get so mesmerized with being 7-0 or 9-0, ASSUMING that if we're playing in the SEC, we're automatically beating good teams with those records. The fact is, we're not. Beating a 2-10 Arkansas team is NOT an accomplishment just because they are in the SEC and we played them at their home. Having to come back to barely beat a BAD SoCar team is NOT an accomplishment just become some idiots out there say they have a good coach and are underrated.

Had we had any three of UTenn, UGa, OU, Vandy, or Bama on our schedule instead of Auburn, Ark, and SoCar, we would not have been anywhere near a playoff team. Much less undefeated before playing t.u. WE are the team that everyone on here says Indiana is, yet they've actually beaten good teams.

So yes, while we were capable of winning today (Miami only played 4 games outside of Florida and went 2-2 in those games; none of those teams save maybe SMU were anywhere near as good as we were, even if you factor in all the negatives), it isn't a shock we didn't. They're WAY better coached and seem to be playing better as the season goes on.

I don't really agree. We had all the pieces for a good run. Only issue is a QB1 who turns the ball over in the end zone. How many red zone turnovers did he have? Feels like it was at least 5. Had 2 of them today alone. Totally un-****ing acceptable.
