Early in the season, despite lacking an accurate deep ball, we threw very well.

A few games in and it almost seemed like Marcel had developed and was hitting deep receivers.

We ran effectively so much that by the 4th we could beat you down.

And of season, we sucked at it.

Moss? Heisman talk? Pressure? Coordinators figure us out? Our schemed?

All?? WTF

Defensive coordinators honed in on taking away the run and then played more zone defense. Forced Marcel to be strictly a drop back passer which requires more accuracy.

Go back and watch the ND, Arkansas, lsu and SC (2nd half) games and you'll see more space for passing windows with open guys in the intermediate range of 10-20 yards. That's where Marcel excels is in the short/medium passing game where guys can get YAC.

That was non existent against Texas and Miami… also Missouri to an extent

It also seems like Marcel wasn't confident or decisive at times down the stretch and that led to a lot of late throws or throwing over, under, behind receivers. Also led to a lot of late runs that got stopped early by tacklers bringing him down.

And the whole wind gusts that we had against Miami, that also kept anyone on either side from being able to throw anything over 20 yards.

I thought he was over-confident down the stretch, forcing throws into tiny windows that had a zero percent chance of being completed. And not only were they not completed, it resulted in horrific interceptions.

Big difference was the quality of fronts we were facing. We were a good run team but not an elite one and that was the difference down the stretch. Texas / Miami fronts were too athletic we couldn't run the ball on command on them even though Miami was basically daring us to run. So we couldn't stick with the run enough to wear teams down in the 4th Q like we did Florida, MSST, LSU.

Nah, we feasted on throws near theLOS that KC and Mario turned into explosives. When that got taken away, Reed crumbled. He does not throw anyone open or anticipate windows, and his mechanics fell apart as the year went on leading to wild inaccuracy. He has to get his mechanics righted and needs a VR headset for a million mental reps. He has the tools clearly but he came unraveled as the year went on

With the exception of ND. Texas and Miami had better
teams / athletes, than the other schools.

This team started to buy into their hype too much is what happened. The whole Reed gingerbread man crap came back to bite him. That was the week leading up to the SC game. It was all downhill from there.

Teams kicked it up a notch against us, and we weren't able to match the intensity because we had already peaked, and we were also banged up at the skill positions.

I'm suspicious of the effort put into the offensive game plan for the UM game. We knew we had issues against tu and had time to work through them. Looked like we did nothing. Even for the week we didn't know the opponent, Reed could have been working on footwork and accuracy issues.

Defensive coordinators took away the deep slant route from Craver.

Marcels happy feet got worse as the year went on

Play calling became very debatable as the heat went on

We became an insanely predictable offense

Still upset there was no way CK could scheme that back into the offense.

It's not complicated. We had an inflated record and stats due to playing lesser competition. Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, LSU were all down this year. Mizzou was a good win but they had also just lost their QB.

tu and Miami had as good of or better athletes, and wouldn't you know, we struggled.

To me, the game a lot of times moved too fast for Marcel. Between that and he could only throw bullet passes on a rope, bit us in the arse. It got us by the bottom half of the SEC and other teams on the schedule, but between tu and Miami, you had to be able to do other passes and seethe game better in order to win those games. When the opposing coaches saw how Marcel was, they adjusted and won. When Elko saw them adjust and knew there was nothing he could do, it played into us losing those games. Yes we beat ND early, but if we played them again, we would have lost that game too.

Basically, I don't think Marcel is the answer

and the frustrating thing vs. Miami...

you could tell after the opening and second drives of the game...

the Ags were going to have trouble scoring

This year we lost in late November and mid-December. Beats August, September, October, and early November…

We were more a 9-3 team vs 11-1. We were 2 plays away from this reality.

to me at least for this season marcell thrived when he wasn't the focal point. as the season progressed it seemed as though klein put him in position to be the star and he just wasn't ready yet. we got away from what made us a really good team which was the blue collar offensive strategy of running the ball first and mashing peole into submission in the 4th quarter. some of it was quality defenses but we abandoned the run way to often down the stretch.

Without a power running back (moss) the run game pretty much dried up.

Defenses could play zone and go after Reed.

Klein left Reed in the pocket against zone which requires timing and accuracy, hard to do with big defensive linemen in your face.

This improved the few time they called plays that allowed Reed to roll out and move the pocket.

Klein, being the offensive guru, rarely set Reed up for success with really bad play calling.

I'm certain that much of the zoo is confusing us with sip since much of what they're describing relates more to them and they watch all of their games.

Wind was a factor in the tu and Miami game. Reed doesn't have a strong arm

Actually the short game was there. Leaches style offense would have scored 50 on Miami.

5 and 10 yard routes underneath were there.

We were also 2 or 3 plays away from 13-0 and playing in the Cotton Bowl.
