We're a complete joke being laughed at anytime there's actually something important and I guess I'm kind of wondering why everyone is so happy and optimistic. What is there about next year why that should all change and we might win one game that's relevant to post season expectations?
If you truly feel this way, then I feel sorry for you and you should probably pick another sport or team to follow.
Some of you guys are so thin skinned that your buddies from other schools saying mean things just turn you into miserable SOBs.
If you don't want to be optimistic, don't be.
here's what I'll say.
There are people on this board that are optimistic.
There are people on this board that are pessimistic.
The optimists go into each game hopeful and excited, albeit anxious.
The pessimists go into each game full of woe and dread and talking about how terribly it is going to go (usually with some sort of "I'm above it all but this is just how it is")
After wins, the optimists generally are more excited and have a better outlook.
The pessimists tend to live in "if we did this against a
better team, they'd have killed us". After games like ND, it's all about how ND sucks and BETTER teams will kill us. No enjoyment, even after huge wins. These games suddenly become games that "didn't matter".
After losses, the optimists generally still see reasons to support the program and be hopeful.
The pessimists spiral and post threads like this one 10 days after the game, basically daring anyone to tell them not to be miserable.
So my question isn't "why be hopeful". It's why the hell would somebody choose to approach this sport in a way that makes you miserable during the good times, more miserable during the bad times and just generally whiny/sad all the time. What is the value?
I could understand if those that went into games with pessimism were largely even keeled afterwards, but they're they worst. Far worse than those who go in hopeful, despite not getting the outcome they wanted/predicted.
So yeah - be miserable if you want. Nobody is going to convince you why you should believe in big things moving forward. My guess is you just want to take shots at any optimism those folks have vs actually looking for reasons to be happy.
In my experience, folks that want to be happy, hopeful or optimistic, generally are. Folks that don't want it, aren't. Very rarely does either side pivot because of some message board point somebody makes.
