There's a strong possibility this happens. Maybe the ones who don't have a bye got a better rhythm going into the games?

Look at who got the byes last year and how they determined that. This year's bracket is seeded differently.

One big flaw of the current CFB schedule is the massive wait between games in post season. I get they want to keep games on NYE/NY, but teams are going 3+ weeks without playing. Personally, I think they need to just play every weekend like the NFL does

All 4 teams should be playing these games on home campuses, rewarded for their regular season.

Arizona State sure looked good after their bye last year in the quarterfinals. Doubled up the Sips in yards.

And thats why this round last year was so horrible to watch. Just idiotic way to set up the playoff structure. This year is infinitely better and the games on the field should prove as such, or at least compared to last year's garbage games we were left with. So far with game 1, it is much more enjoyable. Just need to get rid of the garbage teams in the first round and the playoffs are actually proving to be a success overall.

It's just BS excuses. The better teams win.

It will be a 16 team playoff next year if the pattern continues.

If 1-4 all lose again, then the appropriate correction is that the top 4 teams next year should automatically be eliminated from the playoffs

Won't happen. Indiana and Georgia will win

The belief of many that the playoff only needs to be 4 or 8 teams is being dismantled. Miami is the 10 seed and would have very likely been seeded even higher than that in a 16 team playoff. A 10-2 team that runs the table in a deep playoff absolutely deserves to be the NC.

It is not BS. Especially when the non-bye teams have played AND get 10 days for a little extra film & rest (and then a neutral field). It is ****ing stupid that your top 4 teams in a bracket have a clear disadvantage. Georgia, Oregon & now Ohio State were all horrible in the 1st half of these games the past 2 years & down by double digits at half.

Let's let it all play out.

Last year Oregon played Ohio State. Very hard to beat a good team twice. See OU Bama this year.

Georgia had a new QB and Kirby lost his dad unexpectedly the day or two before the game. I'm sure that affected his coaching.

Texas needed help from the officials to beat Arizona State whom pretty much kicked their A$$ all game.

And do I really need to say anything about Boise State not deserving a top 4 seed?

This year so far, as Ags already know, Miami is a very good team.

I am aware you don't need them.

Yet they will still have them

They should bin them anyway.

But yes. Routine, rhythm, and peaking at the right time can't be understated. Especially now when talent is as close as ever across teams

This. People were saying OSU was rusty because of the break which is stupid. OSU lost to Miami just like we did. Their DL absolutely dominated the OSU OL and they were able to run the ball. Exactly like our game.

I dont think all of the teams with byes will lose again but I can see the Big 10 having a bad year after all of the posturing by the national media.

I think Tech should be the underdog. I don't look at lines but think they lose because they didn't deserve to be the 4 seed.

I think Bama gets the upset win.

I think Georgia wins but Ole Miss would have had a good shot if they were nit abandoned.

This is no different than the old days where you wrapped the season after Turkey day then waited 3-4 weeks for late Dec. or NYE/NYD bowl game.

There is merit to moving the calendar to where the semi-finals are on NY day and NC one week after.

It's way too long right now already adding 4 games for first round teams and min. 3 Games for others to win the NC. That is 16 or 17 games if you play in the conference champ game (which those are never going away).

Why? Basketball and Baseball don't give byes. Everyone is on the same schedule. Except for seeds and home field advantage (baseball), there are no other advantages.

This is hard for me to understand. I knew Indiana was good but they are making Bama look like a G5 team. Are they really this much better athletically ?

I think most people are missing the real issue: 12 teams makes NO sense. Based on the way things are set up, seed 5-6 are the ones that get a huge benefit over their 1-4 counterparts. They each get a home game against the two lowest seeds, almost certain wins, while 1-4 sit at home and wait. 1 plays either 8 or 9, which isn't a gimme, and a 2-7 and certainly a 3-6, matchup are essential draws.

That might be justifiable if the 1-4 seeds in those games had that round at home, but they don't. So tech, in this case, was a better seed than Oregon, yet didn't get a home game and had to wait 3.5 weeks while they're opponent got not only a home game but one against a an opponent they matched up against. tech would GLADLY have taken the 5 seed under those circumstances. Oregon may still have won today, but as I said elsewhere, I wouldn't have bet on it. The time off is becoming a real factor. Alabama lucked out in Norman (who did OU beat this year that was a complete team?) and wasn't going to beat a prepared IU team.

We can't have a system where a higher (i.e. in number; 5-12) seed has an advantage over a lower one (i.e. 1-4). 12, 24, etc. tournaments make sense when you're talking tennis or basketball as games/matches can be played essentially daily. They don't make sense in football where games are a week and a half, minimum, apart and the first round doesn't start for 3 weeks after the last game.

[Interchange higher/lower as you see fit; I still don't know what the correct term is for this usage]

Why? With 16 you'll royally screw things up with byes.

Top 4 will get to play home gsmes.
BMX Bandit

Why?

Because CFP committee loves to make the simple complicated

Quote:

The Big Ten and SEC are also in favor of the idea of a "double-bye" for the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the bracket. In the proposed 16-team bracket, the first round would consist of two games the 16th seed against the 13th seed and the 15th seed against the 14th seed.

The winners of those games would move on to the second round, where the 15-14 victor would play the No. 4 seed on its home field and the 16-13 winner would face off with the No. 3 seed on the road. There would be six second-round games overall with the 10-7, 11-6, 9-8 an 12-5 rounding out the slate.

Bye teams move to 1-7

Conference champions are 1-9 in their opening games.

Indiana 2025 is the "1" on both
