When A&M left for the big12 for the SEC, it was the beginning of the rise of conference affiliation because of tv contract money per school and the SEC was dominant with the Big10 right behind it but since NIL has had a few years to take root, it's clear that being able to buy your roster effectively with NIL and then coach it is now more important than conference affiliation. Ohio State, Oregon, and the Big10 seems to have an advantage due to scheduling but the bluebloods are not as automatic anymore.
