Going to be tough to get Cooper Witten considering his dad is now the TE coach at OU

Yes, but as the video said, his dad asked schools to keep recruiting him as it is "his journey". Good dad. I hope we land him but OU has the advantage.

Maybe young Witten wants to be his own man and be out on his own. Happens often. Especially if we offer more NIL.

So keep recruiting him so other schools waste time and resources when he is just going to end up at OU anyway?

Not if TAMU offers him more $$. Plus not all kids want to be coached by their parent.

You don't know that. No one does.

If he is worth the effort, I believe Elko will keep recruiting him. He may not want to be with his dad and build his own identity.
I asked my kids to do the same. I didn't want them to apply to Texas A&M. Neither did, my older one is at a different school and my younger one is now in the application/admit season and A&M is not among her targets. I want them to have their own schools.
Maybe this kid feels the same.

There is absolutely 0% chance Witten goes anywhere but OU. He's taking the visits, because it's the best part of recruiting for the athletes. The perks and the "perkys" are well worth the trip.

Certain that's part of the deal, but I left it to your imagination.

In this case, slightly older women most likely.

So true-young men over the age of 18 full of testosterone can't wait to be snuggled right next to their daddy 24/7..

The truth is he'd be better off not playing under his dad. Not like he couldn't still get all the coaching he would need from him anyways.

Cooper is a LB and his dad is a TE coach. His dad wouldn't be coaching him at OU.

Plus, his dad has been coaching him for years at Liberty.

Keep spending money on my kid even though he's not going to your school. He's a rival coach. Maybe we don't listen to him. Our time and resources are better spent recruiting kids that might actually go to A&M. I'm sure the Wittens want their cake and to eat it too but they should have thought about that before Jason took a job at ou.

2027 class across the board is stacked, but loving the way we are set up with the OL so far. We are leading for a pretty strong group and probably top 3/4 at worst for plenty of other high value targets at the position group.

Currently have committed: All rankings are composite
OT Demarrion Johnson 22nd ranked OT, 208 overall
OT Kaeden Scott 20th ranked OT, 184 overall

Likely to get official visits and towards the top of their list:

OT Kennedy Brown 2nd ranked OT, 4th overall
OT Olu Olubobola 7th ranked OT, 69th overall
OT Jake Hildebrand 13th ranked OT, 130th overall
IOL Albert Simien 2nd ranked IOL, 22nd overall
IOL Jordan Agbonoma 5th ranked IOL, 77th overall
IOL Jackson Roper 13th ranked IOL, 239th overall
IOL Keyon Hemphill-Woods 21st ranked IOL, 370th overall
IOL Ismael Camara 4th ranked IOL, 29th overall

Also have continued to remain in the top group for Mark Matthews, #1 OT, #2 overall, but it feels like Miami is going to be tough to overcome in that one. Getting 5-6 from this list would be a monster class. I think the staff believes some of the in-state kids like the ones committed, Hemphill-Woods, and Hutto IOL Jayden Mack are all better than where they are currently being ranked as well. Our CB/S recruiting is also pretty outrageous.

Met Jason Witten on a flight from Houston to Dallas. Very nice guy and easy to talk to. He and his wife just watched their son's game at Rice.

Yeah I would probably tell the Witten kid to pound sand. The fact that he came out and said that rubs me the wrong way.

It's not a lot of money anyway. Let the kid enjoy his time.

But if it was my son, I would feel the same - that my son should find his own way. I cannot and should not pave the way for him as he grows into adulthood. I even both my kids to NOT apply to A&M. Granted they are not athletes, they are applying as regular students, but I want them to have their own schools and build their own paths. Not just copy dad.

Plus, assistant coaches move on to other programs all the time. There's no guarantee that Witten will be the TE coach at OU for that long. Tennessee (his alma mater) might money whip him next year. Or TCU or SMU might money whip him back to the DFW area where he has lived for decades.

We aren't THAT desperate for good players.

99% he ends up at ou. Can't hurt to have him visit but hope we don't allocate a lot of resources

You make a great point, Sir.

Plus the kid learning from a coach who holds him to the same standard, not above, not below, will be beneficial. That also teaches humility and resilience as daddy won't be there in the NFL or in a job to help out later on. Being the boss's son will hurt long term.
