I don't claim to know ball, but man they were just always in the right place to make a play. How do you do that? Haven't seen A&M do that since michael hodges got hurt in the cotton bowl.

They have D tackles that get consistent push and they set the edge consistently on the outside. We don't do those things well.

I mean, our defense did hold Miami to it's fewest points all season in 16 total games.

I'm not saying Indiana isn't a good defense, that the transitive property always works, and I know the wind probably helped, but we did better against this same Miami offense than they did.

They won the championship because of timely offense far more than defense. Just overwhelmed Oregon's defense with consistent execution, and continued to make big time plays to keep extending the lead against Miami.

They obviously have really good analysts to be able to determine what plays will be run.

Refs letting players get away with PI all night helps too.

yeah that's true. I do feel like our players are of a better caliber and cover for a lot of misalignments. My question is more about reading the offense and seemingly knowing what's coming and in more than just the national championship. Every game I watched they were always right there to make a play.

Stealing signs so they know which play is coming

And their o-line holds are legendary..,even Herbstreit had to comment about some very obvious open field holds, not saying they didn't earn the win so don't go there…just saying refs or rules suck when not enforced or called equally

already addressed. I'm not saying they played better or that our defense played poor against a common opponent. I'm talking about positioning specifically. There is likely a word/concept for what I'm getting at but I dont know it.

You're probably talking about run fits specifically.

We were pretty solid on defense but had a habit of blowing at least 3-5 plays per game where we had guys going to the wrong gap and gave up massive runs.

Miami's offensive lineman outweighed Indiana's defensive lineman by an average of 53 lb PER MAN.

If those guys are consistently getting push, it's coaching and technique. 100pct

Yes. Our LBs and the Jack Safety did not fit the run well on many occasions. That or they got caught up in trash.

that little corner was fantastic. for those of us who remember the days of aaron glenn, kevin smith - lockdown corners allow a defense so much creativity. ricks and more-so lee were good but they weren't to that level. it's been quite some time since we've had a true lockdown... i might be forgetting somebody but maybe back to sammy davis.

That happened to Indiana last night also: they gave up the long td run to fletcher

A missed field goal, a punt blocked for a TD, two 4th down conversions and a pick. Indiana was lucky because they did everything well and had a tough QB.

They had one whole tackle for loss. A sack. Miami had 342 total yards. I'm not saying Indianas defense isn't good, but some of yall are blowing them way out of proportion based off the one full game that most of you saw them play all year.

They've seen a lot of football. It's similar to Michigan a few years ago, a mature team that doesn't make mistakes and has seen most of what you're going to run a hundred times. Any time a Miami player had space it was obvious that Indiana's defense was slow, but they were rarely out of position.

Um, we held Miami to 10 points and 278 yards with 12 first downs there chief

Lets see Indiana gave up more yards, more points, a massive long run, couldn't contain Toni. Yet they are great and we suck. Typical zoo.

Blocked punt is a turnover IU was +2 in the turnover category which wins a lot of games

All of the woulda coulda shoulda posters need to ask themselves the basic question

At a neutral site do we keep it close or do we lose by 17 ?

Transitive property of football is basically garbage but it is a double helping of garbage if you try and project home game results onto a neutral site or road game

I love how, to some people, our defense gets credit for holding Miami to 10 points, but our offense gets a pass for only scoring 3 because of the wind. Did the wind play a factor or not?

(For the record, I think the wind excuses are BS)

Who said that? Snide response to an argument you wish someone made rather than what was actually said to make yourself feel smart. Typical zoo. Strawman elsewhere.
