One thing about Coach Elko, he's direct, no Jimbo WV word salads.
He's Marshall Raylan Givens not Boyd Crowder if you've watched Justified.

2026 is up to Marcel Reed.

I think Reed will be better with Coach Wiggins than Klein, WR coaches in my view are better than X QB's.
Coach Wiggins was RB as a player and has coached longer and more positions than Klein.

Bruce Arians coached WR for three years before becoming an OC and head coach. He won two super bowls.
Kingsbury, perhaps the best OC at A&M ,never got a ring as a coach, even with a Super Bowl winning QB Pat Mahomes.

WR coaches in my view bring a better vision than former QB's in being OC's.

I am sure some zoo member will give me a list of QB converted to coach examples, but hey wasn't Jimbo a QB?

Theres a group here that thinks very little needs to change. As I suspected, even Elko knows better

There's a group that thinks we need a different qb and one that thinks keep Marcel but he needs to improve

I haven't seen anyone saying keep Marcel and we'll be fine if he plays like he did this past season

If we get last season's Marcel the ceiling is 9-3 on that schedule as it looks right now

Elko has had two years to get this going. He is thinking like Jimbo regarding QB play. I'm not sure being consistent like that matters…

Has long been my belief that the best offensive minds come from defensive side (playing career).

They know what works and what doesnt, and how to attack a D in the most hurtful ways.

I disagree.

I think that Elko is spot on with his comments yesterday in the presser about "Being Consistent":

QB Marcel Reed is Not Consistent in many areas =

1. Passing Accuracy - 2. Making Quicker Decisions - 3. Throwing into Tight Windows - 4. Running

I also agree with coach Elko on his Urgency statement:

In the 2nd Half of the South Carolina game the whole team played with Urgency.

LOL. You're insane if you still believe Kingsbury had anything to do with JFF and his 2 seasons here. Kingsbury's biggest contribution was looking the other way and letting JFF do what he wanted.

He's the epitome of failing up.

Which was never necessary except we were not ready for that game. The buck stopped with Elko and stayed there for the Texas and Miami losses.

Reed is going to have alot of new faces around him. Hard to see him play better with a complete new oline.

I mean, the O-line he just had broke down by the end of the season and couldn't open up any holes in the run game, nor could they set a clean pocket.

I agree that it's up to Marcel Reed to improve his passing accuracy, especially in tight windows and make quick decisions. Hopefully, the O-line can keep Reed healthy for the entire season and open holes in the running game.

All the new faces is exactly why he will need to play better. As was said, if he plays at the same level as last year, 9-3 is the ceiling.

He will no doubt need to play better for us to match or exceed last year.

A lot of different ways to simply say 'Teed has demonstrated he has the tools and ability to play at a high level, but this is his year to demonstrate that he can improve his decision making and execute the plays/throws that is expected for high level play. His two biggest challenges is quickness of making his reads (and quality of read), and minimize the inaccurate throws. Yes, he needs to improve. Yes, he has the ability to improve, but at the end of the day its on him to make that happen.

I pretty much agree with that. I think Coach was premature in anointing Reed as the '26 qb. Elko probably just didn't want to deal with the criticism if Reed hit the portal.

Also, I wonder if Coach has a blind spot with respect to Reed's ceiling. Defense is often a result of fanatical effort. A defensive coach can often get better results simply thru motivation and exhortation. Offense depends more on skill and talent... especially at the qb spot.

However, if a person simply doesn't have the talent and vision to achieve the desired result, no amount of motivation or exhortation for consistency will have much effect. I say this as an old, retired pilot, who has trained many other pilots, military and civilian, with good results. But not everyone who wants to fly has the innate talent to achieve their goal. Nor every qb who wants to be a passer.

I understand the sentiment about Kingsbury just letting JFF do whatever he wanted but maybe that's exactly what he supposed to do because JFF was at his best when plays broke down and he improvised.

Kingsbury at TT also put up good offensive numbers with Mahommes but just didn't run a good overall program and had a horrible defense.

Again at Arizona he put up good offensive numbers with Kyler Murray but didn't run a good program and failed because of it.

A&M hasn't ever really been known as some offensive powerhouse so I can't think of many OCs that we've had that I'd rank above Kingsbury.

I agree about Reed, A&M is in trouble! Reed may be a starter at a D2 school, however, he is nothing more than a decent 2nd string quarterback at an SEC school!

Focus on Elko not our QBs. He's just blame shifting.
