Making a very difficult post here, as I've never had to do this before. We have come to very difficult conclusion that we can no longer keep our newest GSD addition to the family, and I want to be very upfront with why.

She is extremely aggressive toward anyone outside my immediate family. We have spent a lot of hours and a lot of money on professional training, and there was some improvement made, but not enough to make us feel comfortable with keeping her. She has never once shown any aggression toward me, my wife or kids. In fact she is extremely loving and sweet with us, but anyone outside of that she will growl or snap at. She also bit the professional trainer once enough to draw blood. We don't even feel comfortable letting my kids have friends over to our house right now because she is so unpredictable, and we cannot have a situation where she bites a kid.

The final straw was recently she got into a spat with our smaller dog (~15lb Havanese) and it was bad enough to draw blood. I didn't have to take the smaller dog to the vet or anything, but I did have to super glue a small cut on her closed. Luckily I happened to be standing right there, and was able to break it up quickly, but we don't want to worry about what will happen next time, or what will happen if we are gone.

This is obviously a not fun situation and a very difficult decision to come to, but my wife and I are at the point we either want to rehome her, or we will need to put her down. I'm not really looking for advice here, or have you tried fill in the blank. Believe me, we have tried it all.

What I'm looking for: our house is not the right situation for her, but if there is a situation where she can thrive, I obviously want to give her that chance rather than put her down. If you know of a place where she would be isolated and not around a lot of strangers, or maybe a trainer that wants a project to work on, etc, we would like to give her a chance there.

Details about her: Her name is Lexxie, just under 60lbs. 1 year old, birth date is 5/5/25. Pure bred, AKC registered. Unfortunately, she is not spayed. When we got her as a puppy we were planning to breed her with my male GSD, but obviously that plan has changed as well, and we just haven't had time to get her spayed yet. If that is a deal breaker, we can work with a potential new owner on that.

Located in Katy, but obviously willing to drive a bit for the right situation.

NOTE: I'm really hesitant to make any post like this on Facebook groups, because I don't trust strangers to not put her in a bad situation (bait dog, etc) but I trust the TexAgs community so I at least wanted to give this a try.

thank you for being honest. I had to rehome a dog for the same situation after getting a dog from another person on texasbowhunter that was not upfront on his temperament. his new home has 300 acres with a small family and farm and I'm hopeful you find the same thing.

I would encourage you to reach out to GSP rescues. they might be able to help you and potentially foster until a home is found.

As a kid, we had a GSD that was the same. He was the sweetest dog in the world, with our immediate family. But if you didnt know him, he was going to rip your face off.

Hope you can find a home without kids, who needs a good guard dog...

As theJonatron said, move her to a family with some land. When I was in middle school my neighbors had a GSD that was exactly the same and they ended up moving her to a family friends on some farm land and ahe thrived out there.

Good news. I reached out to the trainer we used for Lexxie and he knew of a rescue that specializes in cases like hers and would take her. So she is going there tomorrow. Very happy we were able to find somewhere for her.
