If you can swing getting a new one, Apple should start their back to school promotion in the next week or two. You typically get a free accessory like AirPods or a keyboard. If you couple that with education pricing, it's as good a deal as you can get on one.

Thanks for the heads up. We have been looking and no big discounts right now. He starts summer 2 the second week in July. We want to get him setup by then if possible.

Used is fine with us as long as it's within the last few years. The one I had was so old it would not update, that led to the Chromebook a couple of years ago. Macs last forever and we want him to keep this one at least through high school.

We have an older Mac I believe a 2020. If it still updates and I can clear it I could part with it for $100.

Awesome, if it still is able to update and store files it would be great. They use canvas and most of the work I see of his is online. My Mac is a 2010 and we tried everything, but couldn't get it to work. Can you send me an email to follow up with details… user at yahoo dot com

Neos will definitely get him through college. Unless he's gaming, it's the best machine for almost all college students.

I work for Apple Education and handle education sales for 3 states. The MacBook Neo is a great device and will handle anything a student can throw at it for school purposes. As stated earlier, it is not a gaming system. I recommend upgrading to the 512GB for growth, but that is it. The Neo is a Mac and not a cheap throwaway Chromebook.

If the budget is there the MacBook Air is the more powerful, scalable device. The M series chips are fast, reliable and full of power. You can't go wrong with the Air if you can get one at the price you need.

Thanks for the information! My son said the same thing and was hoping for an air with the M chip or pro. We appreciate everyone helping with this purchase as it will be a major one for him. He is in Esports as well, but uses a game system (scholarships in this too). Does he use his school email if he purchases it through education sales?

For the Education discount he will need an Unidays account which is an education discount site for hundred of things including Apple. Have your institutional email, student ID, or a recent tuition bill ready as well. They want to verify that he is a student.
