I thought it was nuts that Mississippi State was undefeated. 7-0 for the worst team in the SEC.

But then I looked at their history.
2017: 6-0 to start the season, then 3-5-4.
2012: 7-0 to start the season, then 2-10-1.
2010: 7-2 to start the season, then 1-12.
2009: 8-0 to start the season, then 1-8-2.

But hey, shutting out the Austin Peays and Southern Misses of the world is better than losing to them.

And I thought this was a good time to remind you that A&M gave Miss State a 17 year head start in SEC play and the Aggies passed them in SEC wins in 2016.

Well, they have a new coach this year, I think. If my memory is correct, we have won 13 games in the SEC Tournament and MSU has never won a game ever.
CDub06

Indeed. MSU has only qualified for 2 SEC tournaments. Which is mind boggling since nearly every team qualifies.

I watched a division III women's soccer game tonight, it's amazing how terrible both teams were in every aspect of the game and every aspect of athleticism. Really makes me appreciate the Aggie team even more.

Per Chris Henderson via Twitter

As SEC play begins, here's the RPIs for each team:

1 - Mississippi St
3 - Texas A&M
9 - South Carolina
10 - Auburn
16 - Alabama
35 - Tennessee
42 - Vanderbilt
48 - Georgia
55 - Missouri
68 - Arkansas
87 - LSU
103 - Kentucky
104 - Florida
124 - Ole Miss

How the heck is Miss St at #1 RPI with that trash schedule?
HiddenAg2

Opponents' opponents winning percentage does have a good weighting in the RPI and it's pretty out of whack early in the season. Once MSU starts losing, which will be soon and often, they will plummet.

A&M is in a strong position, somewhat surprisingly, because some of our opponents are having better seasons than expected, and the fact that almost all of them have played strong schedules.

Does Chris have a new site for tracking RPI since he killed woso-stats.tk?

Awesome
(has less info than the old site though, most notably adjusted RPI)

If you do just a little searching you will find adjusted RPI on the site.

Nice, that's the one I'm wanting!

I had assumed cdub had already presented us with the best version instead of keeping the best link for himself.

Santa Clara currently at #2 RPI.

Can't wait to see Auburn eviscerate Mississippi State tonight. Then the Aggies shall eviscerate LSU.

These pansy schedules shall not stand.

That big win will have huge legs - we will reap the benefits throughout the season.

Auburn won 3-0 go figure.

A&M #1 in the RPI. Can't say I saw that coming with our schedule, but some teams we thought wouldn't be very good are having great seasons. Beating Kansas will really help long term RPI as well. This season is setting up nicely for a #1 seed. Just have to keep winning.

UNC beat Florida St, so A&M will be #3 if we beat Kansas. Only Stanford and USC left in front of us.

Florida hasn't finished with an RPI outside the top 15 in over 10 years, they're currently #103

Brutal Sunday for the SEC... Arkansas ties Providence, Lipscomb & Memphis both get wins.

At least Auburn is doing their part in Florida's absence.

Perfect Teams So Far:

  • Texas A&M
  • Auburn
  • Virginia
  • Boston College
  • Washington State
  • Milwaukee

Kentucky is dismal, easily the worst team in the conference.

That is all.

South Carolina did have a big win at Tennessee 2-0 yesterday. That is a big deal because we have to play at South Carolina last game of the season. I really thought the Vols would win that game, but the Gamecocks just continue to find ways to win regardless of who is on their roster year to year. Amazing really. I do think someone will beat them before we match up though.
HiddenAg2

And the SEC does look pretty weak this year, with only Auburn and South Carolina as legitimate threats to A&M for the title right now. Although we probably need to keep an eye on Vandy.

That sounds about typical for the SEC, only about 3 or 4 teams are in the hunt each year.

UNC - 1
Santa Clara - 1
UConn - 1
Notre Dame - 2
FSU - 2

Since you brought that up, I guess this would be somewhat on topic... Here's something I was looking at recently.

Everyone knows UNC Women's Soccer is the most dominant team in college sports history. But there's a definite trend down, or at least a trend toward parity.

1980s (starting 1982):
8 Final Four Appearances
8 Championship Appearances
7 Championships

1990s:
10 Final Four Appearances
9 Championship Appearances
8 Championships

2000s:
7 Final Four Appearances
6 Championship Apperances
5 Championships

2010s:
2 Final Four Appearances
1 Championship Appearance
1 Championship

From 1982 - 2009, UNC only missed the Final Four 3 times. They've missed the Final Four 6 times in the last 8 years.

They only have 1 ACC Tournament Championship in the 2010s. They won 20 of 22 ACC Tournaments prior.

UNC got a head start on most teams in the sport, but their peers have caught up, especially those in the ACC & PAC12. UNC is still elite, but they're never going to be the behemoth they were prior to 2010. This is good for the sport and it's good for us!

BTW You think TexAgs would be calling for Anson Dorrance's job in that situation?

Notre Dame was a member of the Big East Conference from 1995 to 2012, which includes all four of the final appearances you list.

I have no doubt there would be some on here calling for him to be fired. Coaching is super easy. Anything else would be accepting mediocracy!

Sorry, thought you were talking about national championship title, which no SEC team has won since 2000.
