Texas Aggie soccer finally ends their home stand and heads out on the road for a conference matchup with Arkansas. The match is set to kickoff tonight at 6PM and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network. As SEC play begins, get yourself used to these Thursday night games.
Arkansas is off to a respectable 5-2-2 start with an undefeated 4-0-1 mark at home. Looking a bit closer reveals that they have one top 150 win: a 3-2 win over Baylor. Their ties came against credible teams West Virginia (1-1) and Providence (1-1). Losses came in the conference opener at Georgia (1-3) and in a head-scratcher at a bad McNeese State (2-3 2OT). The headscratcher equal parts "How do you lose to McNeese" and "Why were you playing AT McNeese?". The Razorbacks currently sit at #61 in the RPI.
Arkansas has outscored their opponents by a combined 17-12. Junior Midfielder Kayla McKeon leads Razorback scoring with 4 goals along with 1 assist.
A quick refresher on the A&M-Arkansas series history: A&M is 8-1 all-time against Arkansas. The Hogs claim they are 4-8-1 against the Aggies, counting 3 victories against a non-scholarship Aggie club team (prior to 1993), including a 1986 forfeiture. A&M's very first game as a Varsity Squad was actually against Arkansas in Plano in 1993. A team of inexperienced Texas Aggie freshman took Arkansas to overtime in that match, eventually losing 1-2, giving Arkansas their only true series victory over the Ags. Ouch. That explains why they want to count wins over a non-varsity squad.
