False positives are really rare. Not to say it can't happen, but that'd be quite the bad luck.

If he's saying that just because a second test came back negative, its more likely the second test was a false negative or the player had gotten past the virus.

I mean the NFL had 77 false positives in one go. They're not that rare

The 77 false positives resulted from one common incident at a testing facility. That's how they got so many at once, and that's not at all a good example to analyze the overall accuracy of the tests.

False positive rates of Covid-19 tests have been showing false positive rates of less than 1% and lower. Its much more likely to get a false negative. And of course possible the player just became negative between the first and second test.

I'm not saying it didn't happen. It certainly could have happened. I'm saying if its assumed false positive just because she later tested negative, that's not at all the statistically likely explanation.

If they have another reason, like the NFL did, to look into it and come to the belief it was a false positive, then that's another thing.

1 in 100 is pretty high. The team has done well over 100 tests

Its likely less than 1 in 100, but either way, wouldn't be the statistically likely explanation and thus you're not likely to see a protocol allow for reversal unless its a confirmed false positive.

Nothing in that tweet indicates its confirmed ("believes") and it doesn't expand on why Coach G believes that. Again, not saying it didn't happen.

I believe the player is being tested again today, so let's just hope she's negative again and the rest of the year goes smoothly, yeah?

The girls are testing 3 times a week so the possibility that she got over it between test doesn't make much sense

If you test 100 football personnel three times per week at a 1% false positive rate..........................

I do think being safe is better than being sorry...our home has three working outside the home and they have to take 72 hours off if they have any symptoms and report if anyone is tested and cease working until the test results are back. Just for the matter of comparison...

Whoa!! I worked in healthcare for 40 plus years and how many women and men get called back for false positive PAP smears and PSA tests? Todays labs are like factory assembly lines.

Per G's press conference this week the positive was a lab error and all players were cleared last Friday.
