Texas Aggie Soccer is in Tuscaloosa for tonight's road match against Alabama. Kickoff is set for 7PM and the game will be available to stream through SEC+ on the ESPN App. You can also listen live through the 12th Man Mobile App.
Things are going to be a little bit shorter this week and I'm taking it easy on the stats.
Alabama is currently 1-3-2 on the season. The Crimson Tide opened the season with a 3-1 win against Tennessee, but have gone winless since. Ties came at Mississippi State (1-1) and last week at LSU (3-3). They have lost at Florida (1-2), against Arkansas (0-2), and against Ole Miss (0-2).
As you can see, the games have been close score-wise. In fact, they were 1 second away from the win at Mississippi State before allowing the Bulldogs to tie it up. Overall, Alabama has been outscored 9-11 on the season and outshot 64-88.
Three different players have each accounted for 2 of Alabama's goals. Junior forward Riley Mattingly (#10) is among those 2 goal scorers. She is also among 6 Texans on this Alabama roster. Mattingly has placed 3 of her 8 shots on frame. Both of her goals came in the Tide's lone win of the season.
Sophomore Midfielder Reyna Reyes (#16) was a 2019 All-SEC selection during her freshman year. This season, Reyes has tallied 1 assist. And all 3 of her shots have been on frame.
Junior McKinley Crone has played all 580 minutes in goal for Alabama this season. During that span, she has allowed 11 goals and totalled 36 saves.
Alabama is still looking for the right combination of players. They only have 2 field players that have started in all 6 matches this season. They do excel at fouling. Alabama is #1 in the SEC in total fouls (82) by a large margin. They average 13.67 per game.
A&M should have the opportunity to setup a lot of scoring opportunities tonight. Alabama can score too, no doubt. They're still among the best in the conference in goals per game. Keeping them off the scoreboard would be an accomplishment. It's a big ask, but something like 3-0 would be a great outcome.
