Just announced: UEFA will no longer use the away goals rule as a tie breaker.

Thoughts? I've always been on the fence about it and it seems like a harsh way to eliminate really good sides - especially in late stages of big competitions.

That would make the most sense, but it's UEFA we're dealing with!!

That would have made way too much sense.

Isn't that the rule in the mls and a couple years agi there was a team that thought they won in Et but they didn't.

This seems the most logical and fairest way, but since it is UEFA that was never going to fly.

Away goals keep teams from parking the bus when they are on the road, so for that reason alone I liked the rule. This will mean when Besiktas travels to Barcelona for a round of 16 game you will have 11 Besiktas players in the box, daring Barcelona to shoot from outside. Will be a boring brand of soccer.

Yeah but the return leg will basically be a scoring fest by Barcelona.

That said, I agree with (I think) everyone else. Keep the rule and then terminate it in ET.
