Thanks for posting. Yeah, the new stadium will be very nice and have a roof similar to what we see at Kyle Field to keep fans out of the elements most of the time. The seating would wrap all the way around the field with nice seats. Also, a multi-level club area on the new West side. The current stadium will be demolished to make way for the indoor turf area.

It would be too expensive but it would have been awesome to have a retractable roof and the first of its kind in the country. Would have been a huge recruiting tool. It would keep us out of the intense heat early in the season as well. Anyone have an extra $20 million sitting around so we can bump this project to $50 million?

Wow! Does any other program have a facility even close to this? Stunning!

It looks like based off the renderings that the new stadium will be built on the same lot as Ellis field currently sits. The practice track field is what looks like would be demolished for the new indoor track facility.

Love the new renderings for the soccer stadium. Also glad to see they will be utilizing the old softball field for extra space.

What is the Outdoor Turf? Is it part of the Agronomy Department?

It's a covered field with field turf, fake grass. So they can practice if the weather is bad

New Soccer Stadium with Signature Roof Structure | $30 million
A modern 3,000-seat stadium will feature a signature roof structure to amplify crowd noise for our elite soccer program. The premier facility will be located on the site of
the former Aggie Softball Complex at the corner of Olsen Boulevard and Tom Chandler Drive. It will include premium seating and amenities, a new video board, press box, locker room, team lounge and sports medicine and hydrotherapy centers. The new stadium will propel Aggie Soccer, which has made 26 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, in its quest for a national championship.

Thanks for posting.

Probably a different thread, but I wonder what it would take to get a men's team. As the sports popularity continues to grow in the U.S., I would think it would just be a matter of time.

It's 100% a Title IX issue. If you add a men's team in any sport you will need to add a corresponding equal women's sport or sports. Whatever it takes to come up with the same number of scholarships in equivalency. Add in travel, coaching, facilities, etc and it's not cheap.

Many years ago and many ADs ago I heard a talk given by Bill Byrne. The question of adding sports came up. The response at that time was bowling would have been next on the add list. Who knows if he was being serious or not.

I would think that gymnastics would be on the short list, especially given that several SEC schools compete in that sport.

This. Travel alone makes it fairly prohibitive. What are the closest D1 men's programs? Are any in the SEC? SMU, Tulsa then.HBU, Incarnate Word, Oral Robert's. And that Is what I could find at first glance. Hardly schools that will create buzz for fans to attend that's for damn sure.

I would think it would take the SEC getting together and add it across the conference. But dang, could you imagine the impact on HS Soccer in the state if A&M and tu both added it?
KCup17

Unfortunately SMU and HBU are the only D1 mens soccer programs in TX. Not that there isn't a demand for D1 mens soccer in TX it's just a money and Title IX issue.

UTRVG and Incarnate Word both have D1 Men's teams.

Most likely next sport added at A&M is sand volleyball. Brings in many women student athletes without adding a lot of costs.

I love it, but are we really going to reduce capacity to only 3,000? They only list 3,500 right now, but that doesn't count any of the seats behind the goals. This sure looks like those would be counted as permanent in this rendering, with little to no room for additional temporary stands. Plenty of good standing room only capacity at the top which is awesome.
