Aggie Soccer gets a bit of a break this week as they look to stay on the right side of .500 and hopefully heal up. We have just one match this week and it's a home game. The Aggies kickoff against #17 Tennessee this Friday at 7PM at Ellis Field.
Unfortunately, Tennessee will be A&M's 4th consecutive ranked opponent and is the rare opponent that holds the lead in all-time matches against the Aggies. This is not ideal as A&M is still licking their wounds and operating without 6 starters. Tennessee leads the series 6-2. Although A&M took last year's matchup 3-1.
Tennessee is 9-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference. That lone loss came to Arkansas (1-3). The Volunteers have conference wins over Auburn (2-1 2OT) and Missouri (2-1). Tennessee has outscored opponents 30-5 this season and has multiple goals in all games except that Arkansas match bad news for this struggling A&M attack.
Freshman Taylor Huff (#13) has a team-high 6 goals on the season as well as 3 assists.
Sophomore Jaida Thomas (#2) is down from her team-high 12 goals from last season. She has 4 goals on the season and a team high 18 shots on goal.
Senior forward Mackenzie George (#31) leads the team with 6 assists and has 1 goal on the season as well. She's a leader on this team and regularly leads the team in minutes played.
Junior Lindsey Romig is the starting goalkeeper for Tennessee and has seen the bulk of the minutes in goal, though she missed one match. Through 9 games, she allowed 5 goals while totalling 25 saves. The IMG product has filled the goalkeeper role since arriving on campus in 2019.
Tennessee has shutout 7 opponents this season. The Aggies have been shutout in all 6 of their losses to the Vols. That does not bode well for the current version of this 2021 squad that can't find the back of the net.
