The future attacking line looks really incredible with Smith, Macario, Pugh and Rodman (still weird to see that last name associated with soccer).

Here's Smith's first goal:

Oh and Mexican National Teams are having a bad year with the women losing 3-0 to Haiti. Sucks for Jimena but can't say I shed any tears over the state of Mexican futbol.

Yeah seeing that they lost 3-0 to Haiti was shocking to me...

Haiti played well enough against the U.S. Losing just 3-0 had to be considered a good result for them considering the thrashings they've taken in the past. They also missed a penalty in the match.

Happy to see them get such a great result against Mexico. They'll play Jamaica for a WWC birth in their final group stage match. What a story that would be if they can pull it off.

Qualifying for the WWC was pretty much a given for the U.S. but getting the auto Olympics bid is the more challenging goal here.

Olympic positions will determined by winner of semifinal matches. We won our side so will face #2 team of other group, so looks like it will be US v. Costa Rica for an Olympic spot.

Only the winner of the Concacaf championship gets the auto bid. The 2nd and 3rd place teams will play in a one-game playoff in Sept 2023 for the 2nd spot.

Ah, good to know. Thanks.

So CONCACAF, in all their wisdom, schedules two off days for the weekend, instead holding the final group matches all on Monday. Its like they try and suppress growth of the sport.

Final group matches will be Monday. In the USA group, US will play Mexico in a meaningless game, as US has already wrapped up 1st place and Mexico is already eliminated. The key match will be Jamaica v. Haiti, as both teams come in with 3 points and the winner will get a bid to the World Cup. Would be a huge accomplishment for Haiti to make the Women's World Cup.

In the other group Canada and Costa Rica have secured the top 2 spots and a place in the Women's World Cup. They will face each other looking to secure first in the group and avoid a match with the US until the finals.

Watching France play in the Euro's, I'd put them as the favorites for the World Cup right now. They look very good.

It's hard to give the USWNT a fair rating right now. So many players are or have been injured, pregnant, or just became new mothers.

S. Mewis, Press, Macario, Dahlkemper, Williams, Davidson, Dunn, Short, Johnston…who am I forgetting?

Beat Mexico 1-0 tonight to close out the group. And that match went full concacaf. Red cards. Terrible referring. 10 minutes of stoppage time to end it. Just an ugly game. But we beat mexico again. In Mexico, so thats nice.

Heath?

Yeah I'm with you. Still a scattershot of a team to build out over the next year. The Euros performances should have these players scared / motivated.

Think you got most of them.

The 23-player roster that coach Vlatko Andonovski called into this qualifying window might not and, in fact, likely will not be the same group he takes to Australia and New Zealand. For starters, the team is missing key players: Crystal Dunn just had a baby, and Julie Ertz is pregnant; Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams are injured, while Abby Dahlkemper is recovering from broken ribs; Catarina Macario, Christen Press and Tierna Davidson all tore their ACLs, and Tobin Heath just returned to the NWSL with OL Reign after she was released from Arsenal.

US beat Canada 1-0 to win the concacaf tourney and secure its Olympic bid for 2024. Ugly games to watch, had opportunity after opportunity they couldn't convert, finally got the goal on a PK. They did a terrible job of closing it out late.and the last play of the match was a Canada shot that easily could have tied it.
But all's well that ends well I guess.

This was one of Canada's best squads ever and we still beat them without many of our mainstays. Despite the scoreline, the U.S. had full control of the match almost the entire way. Rarely challenged in the second half.

It was good to see some of our youngsters getting quality minutes. Really pleased with Cook, Girma, Fox, Smith, and Pugh (though the finishing needs some work).

But hoping to see full recoveries from Sam Mewis, Macario, and Press along with the return of Dunn and Dahlkemper to elevate this squad with experience again.

US dominated the match with the exception of the last few minutes where Canada was throwing everything forward. Thought we could've subbed in a few fresh players earlier as it was obvious some were spent and couldn't keep up with the pace of the Canadian subs.

Still need to bury our chances with more regularity as we ended match with xG of 3.14. Even excluding the penalty, the xG would've been 2.38. Canada had xG of 0.54.

Will be interesting how many of the older players Andonovski takes to WC next year. Most of the older players won't be around for the Olympics for sure.

We definitely need more creativity through the midfield as Lavelle can't be the only one that tries to break down a bunkered defense.

I'd throw in Davidson as another I'd like to see full recoveries as she provides positional flexibility to play both CB and LB.

I do think we need to develop more depth at RB as I'm not sure O'Hara will be on the squad next year.

Bumping since USA is playing Euro Champs England right now.

Down 2-1 currently. Bad defense on the first goal and then high boot have England a penalty (that took forever with VAR).

Now 2-2.

Nope VAR helps England again on a terrible call saying it was offside. No angle showed she was off

Also its nice to see the changing of the guard with a lot of the newer players for the USWNT and then somehow Rapinoe still gets a start

Two questionable calls:

- High kick, when the English player was lowering her head. Eh.
- Offsides. I hate VAR sometimes. They never showed an angle that showed her clearly off to me.

Oh well, it's been a fun first half, and I love to see that size crowd for a women's soccer match.

They finally showed what the offside call was and its a terrible angle from the line of play. No way can they make that call.

I thought the high boot was right. That foot was way high.

To me on VAR they shouldn't be able to use computers, just eyes. If you can't tell from the naked eye that there is clear evidence that is should be offside, then it's not offside. This "offside by .5 inches with colored lines" is crap.

I could go with the high kick. After seeing the video at halftime, she jumped in addition to the kick. Initially it reminded me of those football targeting calls where the RB is the one lowering his head just as much as the defender and those are always such crap.

A good test for the U.S. England has fielded their best 11 while the U.S. has quite a few young/new faces in the lineup including Rodman, Huerta, Fox, Cook, Girma. We're missing Morgan, Pugh, Press, Sam Mewis, Sauerbrunn, Dahlkemper, Dunn, etc. from our usual lineup.

Not England's best 11, off the top they were missing their club captain and one of their best strikers.

Noted, but either way England was much closer to top form than we are due to absences at this point.

Overall I'll take it. Should have been a tie. England played as a team better. We had some good individuals and the youngsters will gel and grow.

Was expecting commentary for the Spain game today, but not sure if no one cares or not.
