I know there are quite a few on here.

Looking for opinions...
What's a harder habit to coach out?

Being selfish, never looking to pass, and always trying to score?

Or always looking for the pass and not having the confidence to take the shot?

And how do you help get to that fine line?

My wife says the second and I agree with her after five years coaching in the 2010 group (from U9 to currently U13).

Coaching a kid to be more selfish is harder than getting a kid who plays hero ball to pass more.

The way I think of it is the ball hog has a lack of confidence in their teammates while the pass-always player has a lack of confidence in themselves. Maybe for some kids it's easy to coach them into being more aggressive and to trust themselves more, but in my experience it's easier to get the little Jamie Tartts to use their teammates.

I tend to agree at least in my experience with my daughters' teams over the years so far. Almost as if certain players look for a reason not to shoot.

The 2nd. I think you can make selfish turds pass to teammates…they just have to do it and they will if you get on to them enough…but I think it's hard to teach confidence and the willingness to make the mistakes that come with taking your shots
