Chris Henderson:

Big takeaways?

$300K is probably the going rate for a top tier coach.

$3 million might be the magic budget number for true contenders, though $2.5 million with built in advantages might be doable.

The gap in budgets in Power 4 leagues is already here.

Big takeaway?

From a quick glance, why is our program spending 40% more than everyone else?

So it's taken to post #4 on this thread to point out that G is the HIGHEST PAID coach in the country based on this research. Almost double of both tu and texas tech.

Yeah I was gonna comment something too but was still laughing at that lol… it's wild given the state of the program

I would guess his salary is that high due to the success of the A&M soccer camps. Those things bring in a ton of money and I bet a decent portion of them go to him. $800 per session with around 600 campers a week for four weeks. That's close to $2 million in camp fees. Plus the future aggie camp and ID camp. If those camps are put under A&M soccer that would greatly add to the inflow and outflow of money. If he takes home somewhere between 10-20% of that you're looking at an extra $200-400k worth of income which is in the range of the difference between his base and reported salary. It would also be one of the reasons why the operating expenses are around $2 million more than other universities.

I was going to ask how the soccer camp $$ are counted in these numbers. I wonder if TAMU treats soccer camp revenue and expenses and payment to coaches differently than other universities, and ends up including those revenues and expenses as part of the soccer program itself, as King Koda suggests. This also raises questions about how Coach G's departure, whenever it occurs, impacts the soccer camps. And this might have played a role in various decisions. Basically, who has 'ownership' or legal rights to those camps? Is it clear? These camps have been quite successful and have gone on for years. I presume TAMU has a large claim, but perhaps it is not completely one sided.

who else do you think have a "claim" on them? You think G can go set up Aggie soccer camps at Blinn or Sam Houston if he's not coaching for A&M anymore?

I'm sure G can set up a competing camp. I wonder how his contract is written with respect to that long-running camp. I suspect the camp makes a net positive dollar contribution to Aggie soccer, it employs many staff (coaches and trainers) some of whom have a relationship with G, etc. I just wonder how the timing and incentives work w.r.t. G's compensation and duties for the year including the summer soccer camp. I wonder how this might matter to an AD deciding on the best timing for pulling out of a contract when and if the time comes. Obviously G is not going to set up an "Aggie Soccer Camp" at Blinn, but that does not exhaust his options.

well my guess is these campers are coming to A&M for camp, not coming to G's camp

It was my understanding that the camp was started to pay for the assistant coaches.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

I wonder how much TCU's head coach is making.....

So you can coach a sport that generates almost zero revenue and still make over half a million? Heck UF's coach in on there for 300k and she hasn't even made the ncaa tournament yet. Pretty good work if you can get it.

If TAMU owns rights, huge selling point financially for the next coach

Does G's contract run through end of 2025-26 school year or through end of 2026 season?

In my quick googling, all I could find is the 4 year contract extension he signed summer 2022 that just says it "runs through 2026". With how awful we are in conference play (would not be surprised if we finished winless), I was curious if anyone knew how much longer this misery would continue. I imagine they will let him save face and "retire" when his contract ends.

it runs thru March of 2026 I think. So at worst i guess is we buyout 4 or 5 months if we fire him at the end of the season.

I guess if Trev doesn't care about the program, he lets the contract run out then we try to hire somebody in April of 2026

It would be best for all parties if he just announced a retirement and we let him finish out the season while actively searching for a new coach…

Tu fans and one of their big soccer donors are pining for Eric Bell from TCU… if we wait till April (wouldn't surprise me) we'll be screwing ourselves over. We'll see if Trev cares about a non football sport

i doubt we'll win any head to head coaching search against the sips. We really don't have any idea how Trev approaches non rev hires, he's not done one yet.

It will be interesting decision to make for sure. Again i can see Trev just letting the contract run out and then hire whoever they can next spring.

Texas is going to fire their coach based on bad results so far this season? She just won the SEC tournament last year in their first year in the SEC, after winning the Big12 championship the year before (34 wins during that 2 year span). Her 2025 recruiting class was one of the highest ranked classes in the country. I would be surprised to see them let her go this offseason unless her contract is up. Is her contract expiring?

If Eric Bell is open to moving to a bigger school then Texas A&M absolutely needs to be the school he's moving to. No question!!! Trev needs to make that happen

You better see what his relationship with sip AD is first. Or you'll have another Schloss situation on your hands

If Texas decides this season was poor enough to let her go I doubt the time left on her contract would have any bearing.

Women's soccer is one of those must count sports in the Director's Cup, which Texas values.
